I wrap about 3' of 1" gorilla tape around a $1 Walmart LED flashlight.
In my opinion that Exotac product is priced very reasonably. The design is genius, the build quality appears to be at the usual high level of other Exotac stuff, and the fact that it covers the top and bottom of the tape roll is a winner.
Frankly I'm surprised it's not more expensive.
I form a loop of 550 cord, lay it out flat together and wrap my tape around that. After the tape is on, there's a loop to clip it on to a carabineer in my pack so I always know where to find it by feel.
I carry a small roll of gorilla tape in my truck along with a small spool of wire.
In my EDC I have a roll of electrical tape and a roll of teflon tape. some gorilla tape might be a good idea .
But for it's character I might rather extend it on something long and flat like my drawing tablet.
Some good ideas on here. I made this for my son today. It has 20 lb fishing line, 30 lb ice fishing line, coated wire, and gorilla tape on an empty wire spool. I think I’ll make one for myself now.
For the gearfreak I guess the Exotac looks cool. You can wrap it around anything really.
I'm a musician, so I carry a whole roll.
I've wrapped it around a motel room card, around a Bic lighter and around a Nalgene bottle, using the first wrap of tape to hold a loop of paracord leaving the loop at the top big enough to slip my finger through. This can be used to tie off to more cordage so you can toss the bottle into a water source that's not convenient for a quick refill.
I like your idea. I like the extra room for a more extensive repair kit. Plus you could use the tin to make char cloth if need be.
