For the last few weeks I have been feeling run down. My workouts were getting slower and slower. Sometimes I would get strange a sensation in my hip. Strange muscle pains and aches. Then my arm really hurt. After that I noticed some swelling under my arm and a little red rash. Not a surface rash as it seemed somehow deeper. Then during my Birthday I got a crazy fever and chills. Today the red rash got like 10 times bigger. I have been tagged by lots of ticks this year and remember one (or at least I think as there have been so many) under that same arm dug in good though thought I once again got a pass.

So I went to the urge care today.

The doctor took one look at the rash and said it was classic Lyme. The town is infested with it. Most of my family members got it (helped kill my grandfather) and about all of the neighbors. So I got an Rx but the pharmacy was already closed. I feel generally physically bad and will fill the Rx first thing in the AM. The price of admission these days.

Had a good buddy of mine on here have the same thing happen recently and his prognosis had a good outlook. Hope you find a similarly positive outcome Walker, stay safe and press on.

Sorry to hear that bud. My step daughter was diagnosed with Lyme Disease last year and for her it's turned into a chronic struggle. She'll do good for a while then she's run down and having weird pains. Hopefully a good long dose of antibiotics clears it up quick!!

Sorry to hear that @Woods Walker . I hope the meds do the trick and your back on the trail soon. I used to live in Old Saybrook and worked in Old Lyme CT many many moons ago. My friend that I worked with was one of the early cases of lyme disease, before they had any effective treatment. It really messed him up. I have a lot of friends that have gotten lyme in the last few years and all have made a full recovery thanks to the meds and catching it early. I'm sure you'll be fine.

Is it me or is anyone else more scared of ticks in the woods then bears these days!

At least you caught it early enough to treat. Get well. The brother of one of my coworkers just contracted Powassan from a tick bite. This causes encephalitis. He's been in ICU for a few weeks now. Very touch and go. We've all got to remain vigilant.

Hope you get well soon. Lymes, powassan, it sucks that doing what we love... Just "going" into the woods, can give us these problems, and such a potential big problem for such a tiny bug.

    Happy birthday though!

Sorry to hear you have Lyme. I had it a number of years back and now my MD just tests me yearly for it. The cocktail of antibiotics suck but they do work. Be patient, take the meds, and in a few weeks you will be back to normal...or as normal as you get :18:

Woods Walker, I really hope you feel better and that the docs caught it early enough. Take care of yourself.

[QUOTE="Is it me or is anyone else more scared of ticks in the woods then bears these days![/QUOTE]

You got that right. I saw a Lyme affected area map and one for Powassan. The whole East coast looks to get shelacked this year. Permethrin on all my clothing and Picaridin on my skin. I'm going to take up swimming with Great Whites while wearing a Lady Gaga meat suit. It's much safer.

The ticks this year have been ridiculous and I hope winter really brings them down hard.... they have made it harder to sleep on the last few outings because I keep finding them.... everywhere.

We are indeed infested with disease ridden ticks up here, and this year they are really bad. Last year two of my friends got other tick borne diseases that landed both of them in the hospital, and both of them ended up with 10 day stays and were close to checking out for good at times. These days, believe it or not, Lymes is the desired disease IF you have to get one of the tick borne ones.

Best of luck with your bout.

P.S. I thanked your post, and I felt funny doing so; not because I did not want to show my support, I just did not want you think I was thanking your getting ill.

Unbelievable year for rodents. Tons of rabbets, squirrels (gray and red plus we get funky black ones) chipmunks up to my eyeballs, mice crawling out of every crack and free range rats. The ground is coated in them. I need bob cats, hawks, snakes, owls, coyotes now! Granted some of those carry ticks as well but less rodents the better.

i wouldn't walk in any woods with such high rate of contracting lyme.
hope symptoms vanish for you. good luck.

come to nebraska where lyme is rare and mostly unheard of.

Get better soon, follow docs orders and use any homeopathic that seems reasonable and doesn't mess with your treatment.

Yeah, ticks keep me from taking random quick hikes during the summer. Our house is right up against a nice woods and swamps wonderland so if I am going in I spray up toes to bald patch on top of my head. We also have to watch out for Babiosis or some such wicked disease and I am in no hurry to learn how to spell or treat any of them. I have the bookend seasons when skeeters and ticks are less of an issue and of course the winter months when you can really explore and hunt a swamp and not come home smelling like Swamp Thing.

Wish you well. Are you using Permethrin on your clothing? I am now wearing 100% treated cloths in the woods and virtually no ticks. Also fewer mosquito and other bites.

I'm not sure if it is listed in that documentation, but I know that some antibiotics can cause tendon weakness and inhibit tissue repair, so I figured I'd mention this as something to look into.

I had a personal experience with this. My doctor never told me about this particular side effect, and I had a serious ankle roll shortly after taking antibiotics a few years ago. It could have been coincidence, but I just stepped down off of a 12 inch log and my ankle rolled over on me like cooked spaghetti...no impact or weird angles..it just failed. Instead of recovering in 4-6 weeks, I was hobbling for months and it was almost a year before it felt fully trustworthy again.

Of course I'm not suggesting that you don't take your antibiotics, just that you look into this. If this particular drug has that side effect, you might want to ask your doctor about changing the prescription or you'll have to be very mindful of this on your runs. If I remember correctly, I think the weakness lasts for several months after taking them.

    Feel better buddy!
