What should I do with it first? I ordered some quarter inch barstock and .028" sheet. An idea that's been bouncing around is a titanium kuksa, shaped similar to a wooden kuksa but with a riveted hand forged titanium handle and planished cup/bowl. Could be very lightweight and carried like a kuksa is carried, but with the added capability of boiling water.

We'll see how hard it is to forge. I just love the idea of the handmade aesthetic with modern materials. I'll post my trials when the stuff arrives!

    hello,
@Park Swan I've seen a Scottish Quaich https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quaich or the Porringer https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Porringer both types of cups/bowls constructed of both wood & a choice of metals. These are mostly used for traditional Scots toasts etc.. I have seen such constructed of a metal for everyday use as to your idea, creating the Kuksa from titanium. It will be of interest to see the outcome of your endeavours. :)

Thank you @DavidJAFO ! I had not heard of a porringer, essentially that is much closer to what I'm thinking than a kuksa. Now I have another line of research into design and functionality, much appreciated!

Titanium is in the mail, but I got too excited so I made a small copper and bronze cup as a mock-up/trial. Only holds about 130mL though so it will have to be a good bit bigger! I don't think I'll be doing handles this exact shape either, it was a real pain to get to that top rivet.

    hello,
Awesome. I could see a cup like so being used sitting by the fire sipping away at a brew (tea) or used as a 'stream cup' which the original use was a shallow vessel, very much similar to the above, for retrieving drinking water from shallow streams without disturbing the mud. :)

Finally had some time to work with my titanium! It's much harder to work with in sheet form, and really doesn't like to be stretched and then upset the way some metals will allow. It could be a very big challenge to make these kuksas work after all :)

Forging the round bar is a blast, though. I posted these spoons for sale in the Vendor Classifieds, so I can get some more titanium in other sizes.

Really cool. I love the copper rivets blending of old and new tech.

Did you try any tempering with the scrap for Ti flint strikers?

Damn, this titanium sheet is really a bear, but the first prototype titanium kuksa/bowl/porringer is complete. It holds 1 cup+ and weighs 60.3 grams.

Beautiful! What was your motivation for the flat handles rather than the wire, Park?

Thanks! They are actually forged very similarly to my spoons. After making the frying pan a couple weeks ago, I really liked the way it can be handled from the side like to sip but also from the end with your thumb on top, to adjust the position over a fire for example.

Alright folks I'll be posting a few items for sale this afternoon in the vendor for sale subforum. I'm going to offer some kuksas, some new all titanium riveted spoons (yeah, the rivets are also titanium!!), and also a new work hawk xl with a deep forced etch. I'm going to aim for posting at 1500 Eastern time.
