Planning to do a short section of the Caroline Dorman trail (Saturday - Sunday July 25-26) and camping near one of the larger bayous. It'll only be about 5-6 miles split between 2 days. Anyone up for it?

Only one questions... can you maybe leave the AC turned up, and the humidity turned down, when you leave work on Friday?

Seriously, a tentative yes. Assume camping at Kisatchie Bayou? PM inbound.

There is the possibility of shade trees, clouds and swimming if that counts for anything. And yes, planning to camp along Kisatchie bayou.

I wish it wasn't quite as far as it is, I'd really love to come out and meet some BCUSA brothers but for a short trip it's a long drive for me. Hopefully another time. I am planning on doing some hog hunting on my dad's land in Southern Mississippi this fall and will have a bush camp set up too, so I'll try to host a get together in the fall.
    Have fun!

Ah man, if I was in I'd be there, but I don't get in until Aug. 5 :(. I do see Pack & Paddle doing a day hike on the CD on the 8th :).

Catch y'all next time hopefully :)

This trip looks like it might be getting rescheduled for a later date when the temps will be under 100 degrees and maybe get some more folks onboard. Looked at the pack and paddle website and dang $40 bucks for a dayhike? Seems crazy to me, but good on them if people will pay that. I'll do it for free :D

Yeah, but it includes lunch AND Hiking Pole Rental! Could be interpreted as including transportation too... would have to, for that price.

Have to say, I'd rather spend the $40 in gas round trip and stay longer, more freedom of movement, etc.

But to each their own, I can see the value to someone who's new to hiking/outdoors and generally I think going out with a group in that context may soften the shock for a newer hiker :) and encourage follow up trips.

High temps or no, my butt's getting in the woods at least a couple of times while I'm home LOL. "I've got new stuff to test/use honey" ;) ;).

Glad to hear of the reschedule to give me a chance to make it. If it's a paid and guided hike though I'll just skip it. I like to get away from people when I'm out, and I imagine I'll barely be able to stand you guys! Naw, look forward to meeting some BCUSA folks, but I am serious about the paid hike.

Well, due to a rig move, I'll be working an extra week. Looks like the 21st-22nd would be my window for an overnighter / trip up to Backbone :). If that changes I'll update here.

I think i missed part of the discussion, but if you mean the weekend of 21/22 November, I think I'm headed for TN that weekend... might be doing an overnight in the Smokies if I'm lucky (visiting my daughter for Thanksgiving.)

I'm assuming BC_Slider means the 21st of next month being August. You didn't miss any discussion, this is it.....the reschedule of the trip that didn't happen I suppose. I'm good to go for any trip in Louisiana.....all I need is a date and a place :)

21/22 August is a friday/saturday. I might have to work a shift that weekend. I'll keep an eye on it. Thanks.

Apologies for the lack of clarity guys! Forestree's correct about August 21/22. I'll firm up the dates shortly. Of course, I'm open to the weekend before but have to check with Mrs. BC_Slider, she may have an out of town trip the 15/16th. Updates to follow...

As I understand the heats been quite oppressive on land, however, my quest for dirt time will prevail LOL. Note to self: water water water ;)

I'm good with Aug 21/22....rain or shine or 115 degree heat index :D

Water on the backbone trail will be hard to come by except for the section in the bayou cypre bottom. Camping on the ridges will mean carrying more water and conserving.....I'm good either way, just something to think about. Looking forward to it and hopefully some more members will join in. Not sure if we should start a new thread as this one is somewhat misleading, haha

There's still a half gallon of water in a bottle sitting at my last campsite... You know where it is.
