A little over a year ago I got the crazy idea to start my own business. It kinda made sense as I was already teaching classes and workshops for various organizations for free. Certain opportunities came to my attention around the same time, so I decided to venture out on my own and Sandcut Outdoors LLC was officially born on Groundhog's Day 2016. The business got off to a slow start due to a leg injury, but once it did get going, it picked up more momentum than expected. Fast forward to today and the calendar is already filled through March and I have classes booked clear into the middle of June already, some of which are repeat customers.

Now this is by no means a full-time occupation, but I have to admit, for just having started out, it has greatly exceeded my expectations and for this I am greatly thankful. As such, I thought it would be nice to do a giveaway to show my gratitude.

Now the item that is being given away isn't a high end item with great resale value like a Turley knife or anything. It is, however, probably one of my favorite tools and one that I use very frequently. It is also a tool that is oft maligned in the echo chamber of the internet, although I can't for the life of me understand why.

I'm giving away a Fiskars 9" Brush Axe. This tool is brand new (just bought it last night) and unused. I did, however, spend 20-25 minutes on it earlier today putting an edge on it with my favorite Nicholson file. This way, the Brush Axe is at its peak efficiency when the winner receives it.

So you're probably saying to yourself "I wish he'd shut up and tell me what I have to do to win this thing". So here goes.

    1. Do not post "I'm in."

    2. Go to my business Facebook page and click on the "Like" button. If you don't do Facebook personally, but know someone who does, you may enter "by proxy" by having someone else like the page for you. If you are one of the 103 people that have already liked the page, that's OK. Read on.

    Facebook page at. https://m.facebook.com/SandcutOutdoors/?ref=bookmarks

    3. Come back to this thread and post the following:
"Done" - if you liked the page for this GAW
"Done by proxy" - if you had someone else like the page for you
"Already done" - if you are one of the annointed 103 who have already liked the page

    4. Promise that sometime by May 2017 you will put the Brush Axe to a serious field test and provide us with a review, complete with photos and/or video.

That's it. I'm hoping that the additional number of likes on the page will help with some of the additional marketing that I have lined up for 2017. (See "bandwagon effect in marketing")

This GAW is open to everyone everywhere. Shipping is on me. If you are under 18, I will confirm on the side that this is permitted by your parents via telephone call. The tool will ship to your parent for legal reasons.

I will run this GAW until 1200 hours EST on January 1, 2017.

Good luck and may you all have a fruitful and healthy New Year.

Great to hear your business is doing well and with rapid growth. Not in on the GAW, although my niece did a TV show with Billy Bob Thornton and I know he would
get some use out of a tool like that:eek:

Done! I'll give that one a heck of field test if I'd win:16:. Seems an interesting blade, it would be great for the forestry work I do for the Dutch tent-camping club (NTKC). I really love doing it BTW, I am allowed to use some serious forestry gear like electric chainsaws and petrol powered sidemowers:p.

Do you guys recognize the love-hate relationship with Fiskars? Shitty steel, ugly design and synthetic material BUT you can beat 'em up, you're not goin' a break 'em!

If I thought it had shitty steel, I wouldn't giving it away.

    Thanks for the like.

I meant the axes, sorry, had to emphasize that. And I'm not exactly sure if it's the steel, the angle or both.

Not trying to write down your GAW, good play!

    Thanks!

I'm not looking for a torture test. Just an honest assessment of the tool for cutting branches, brambles, saplings, etc. You're still welcome to be in if you change your mind.

Done, I would be happy to try and put it through some paces. I have some underbrush in my back yard needs some attention and this would be a good tool for that job. Glad all is going well and prayers for continued success in 2017!

Already done. I havn't seen that tool before and would enjoy putting it to the test. I've got a trail right now full of multiflora rose, tartarian honeysuckle, winged euonomous and autumn olive that could use a whooping. Ill just spin in circles with that thing like wolverine.

Glad to hear Sandcut Outdoors is doing well.

Done. I actually have never owned a tool that fills this role (machete, brush knife, ect). I plan on doing a lot more orienteering off trails this spring so this tool would see some use!

    Congrats on your new business!

You should schedule a trail clearing event. I'm sure we'd get enough volunteers that everyone would get two swings of their favorite tool and your woods would be bare. :)

I'd bring a brace of Kaiser blades in addition to a flock of Brush Axes.

    I said "everyone everywhere".

I just took it in the yard to hack a bit of my beater tree. With less force than my 4 yr old daughters would use, I was taking 1-2" branches down with a single swipe. This thing is brilliant.

I'm glad that you like it!

I checked the tracking this morning and saw that it was en route.

Now let's see a choppy good (or bad if that's your assessment) review of the tool sometime in the no too distant future.

    Enjoy it and be safe.
