To all the great folks on this forum, I sincerely hope you are hydrating and staying where it's cool during this mini heat wave we have going on for many states.
I know this has been brought up recently, but don't over do it, drink plenty of cold beverages ( by that I am referring to water, ice tea, etc.- but if beer makes you happy then have at that too ), try to stay in either AC or have a ton of fans to at least circulate the air.
If you have dogs ( or cats ) make sure they are cool as well. My Siberian Husky is having a real bad time right now, hot spots breaking out all over on her.

Be safe, keep those pets safe, and please try not to over do things.

As I type this I am right next to a central air vent pumping out 68 degree air. It is one of the hottest days of the year here but I am staying cool.

Hope you all stay equally cool and comfy! :dblthumb:

I road tested my 2/55 air conditioning in my truck today! Seriously, though, good advice. Light colored, loose clothing, water is good but have lemonade or Gatorade/powerade or fruit juice to keep your electrolytes in balance. If you must work outdoors, take frequent breaks. A cooling neck wrap or even a bandana or hanky with cool water around your neck helps cool you. Be safe out there!

It’s past the heat of the day here and it’s 96. I’m taking it slow and in the shade.

I do not have ac except in the truck. No cooler in the casa. 100 degree days are not that uncommon in the desert this time of year but having lived in the SW most of my life one learns how to get by. Folks in other parts of the country are understandably having a more difficult time of it and the advice is pretty reasonable in general. But the yall have water too. Here, not so much. So it goes.

    Safety first.

Wow, it is HOT. Thank goodness it is dry here. I have done two days work (for me) today and have another to do. I had a bunch of old mine rail stored at my son’s place and he sold the place so... surprise... if you want it, come and get it. Off I went. Several hundred feet of well over hundred year old mine rail. Sigh. I had already done several sessions of work on the deck here, getting sweated up, coming in and drying off and back out.
Still have to get a load of lumber from his old place this evening. I bet I don’t do too much tomorrow. Gonna be hotter.
Thank goodness for swamp coolers in this desert heat.

    Just take it easy brother.

9PM it will still be 90* but real feel of close to 100* here in my area of NYS. Tomorrow will be close to the same. Monday the temps start to drop to low 80* and even mid 70*. Looking forward to that.

Today is decent. Comfortable. Yesterday, not so much. It was over 80* when I got up. It shouldn't even get that high this time of year. :) I sat in the house all day by the air conditioner. I was outside only three times yesterday, to check the mail and to feed the critters.

Not a big fan of the heat. :)

Iced tea, iced coffee, and beer are diuretics! You'll put yourself at a greater risk of dehydration. Water should be your beverage of choice.

We have been having a mild summer so far in North Idaho but expecting some 90 degree days next week. Wouldn't be bad but this is the summer that the central air decided it was done working. I'm sure it's a refrigerant issue but it uses the kind being discontinued so I'm pretty sure it's going to be a full on replacement.

Thankfully it almost always cools off at night here.

I prefer water and Powerade, at times SmartWater or Vitawater. I do agree, beer will dehydrate, but far be it for me to tell someone what to drink. We are all big boys and girls here, we have a grasp on things.

I am dealing OK, the wife and pup, not so much.

We have a border collie who is not pleased with this weather. She runs like a crazed thing and then just collapses in anything cool.

I did a bit of research and came up with an electrolyte formula recently ... 1/4 tsp each of no-sodium salt (for the potassium), epsom salt (for the magnesium), baking soda (for the sodium). Mix it with OJ (for the sugar) and knock it back. Along with some litres of water :)

    ... then beer

I'm not looking to dictate but to educate. People should know why they feeling poorly from their improper choice.

My missus has the same problem. She's been basically house bound, this summer.

Our kitchen has a ceramic tile floor and, when the dog gets back from her walk, she lays on it until she cools down. Our weather hasn't been too hot yet but the humidity is horrible. You folks up north, be safe.

Recovering from some heat exhaustion currently, still barely functioning after installing a metal roof the last 2 days. The boss's wife had to drive me home, I couldn't even remember what my car looked like a couple hours ago.

The heat is nothing to mess with.

IF you get too much of the heat get to a shady spot and elevate your feet as you begin taking in electrolite filled cool fluids

the 2nd time it happens it will be much quicker and the 3rd time even quicker yet

when your urine begins turning more yellow or begins to get more odiferous you need to force more fluids

when this happens stop the caffeinated and alcoholic drinks(they are counter productive) and go straight to electrolite saturated drinks and water

I’ve been hanging in the AC as much as possible.
Hope everyone stays cool and hydrated during this heat wave.

I survive. I spent 19 years working in 120+ degree kitchens. Heat doesn’t bother me that much. Humidity on the other hand...
I go out in cargo shorts and sandals and work in the yard. I drink plenty of water, sometimes a gallon a day. I don’t eat large meals during the heat of the day.

Be very careful of getting overheated and downing ice cold beverages.
