question for those more knowledgeable than myself.

I’m in the process of making a few blades...just got my steel, will be doing some wip’s on here soon.

My question is, with guards, and pommels, do they need to be heat treated? Or are they good to go with no ht?

    Thanks

heat treating not necessary for guards and pommel only if you wanna make a skullcracker.
Brass is often used for both and is soft metal.

Think abou It this way. Only heat treat parts that are required to be both hard or strong and tough. Ie Blades and tools. Things like guards that protect you and weight balance items don’t need it.

Just don't forget to drill your pin holes for gaurds and scales where needed and thread for the pommel before HT.

FWIW, I'd rather have a guard bend on me (soft) than snap (hard) with sharp edges.
