I have a love affair with knives and the next step is to start making them.

I have a pretty nice setup to get me going. I have no idea if/when I'll start selling them.

Most of you who know me, know that my quality standards are very high and I will be keeping them high in this next foray of my making of things.

    Stand by for sharp thingies...

Good eye! It is 36 grit. I don't have any steel yet. I'm refurbishing a knife for someone.

Can't wait to see what you come up with. Really like the bottom one you drew up, there seams to be an abundance of smaller fixed blades out there but not so many on the larger side.

may I suggest you consider a very small choil, maybe 1/16 to 1/8 inch (I like a small one right there at the plunge line to make sharpening a bit easier and usually put one in if a knife doesn't have one, but not one the size of a nickle like some have, that's wasted edge /metal IMHO

Second Jigs are your friend. Once ya get one set up it lets you keep the things balanced.

I usually leave a thin thickness on the edge around 1/ 32 or so prior to heat treat.

If you aim to send em out for heat treat, check with who is doing it for what they want to do a good job.

Sorry, for just jumping into things that help me when I use stock removal.

Mostly I forge stuff for myself now, and let oldest son (metal worker) make stock removal stuff for me since he has that at his business shop.

Nice designs and they look well shapped from what my ol' eyes can see.

I'm really diggnin' the kitchen knife designs, especially the sweep of the edge on the paring knife.

Can't wait to see the measurements. I have been wanting a non production chef's knife for a while now. I've been a cook, dessert chef, and meat cutter at various times throughout my adult life. Food and knives are probably my greatest passions. More so food, but you'd have a hard time making that without a good knife.

If you have a list, put me down for a chef's knife. If not, I'll just enjoy the show.

Oh yeah, never used Nitro V. Had to look it up. Sounds cool.

I went with 4" on the paring and 8" on the chef.

    Might be a while, lol.

I have a few Sargents in Nitro-V. I am happy with its performance as a stainless steel. Its basically enhanced AEB-L. It's also cheaper than 154cm by a decent margin.

It's been a while since I made progress.

Here is what has happened recently.

Drilled and chamferred the holes for my first batch of PSKs.

    20180901_130415.jpg

    Put pre HT bevels on.

    20180901_151314.jpg

I'm not entirely disappointed with my first attempts at bevels...much improvement to be made though.

Finally got a horizontal/vertical metal cutting bandsaw...what a massive ridiculous pain in my f@#$ing ass!!

I would never recommend someone putting it together by yourself.

Mine weighs about 150lbs. 3rd page of the instructions say "with an assistant (my left arm) and an appropriate lifting device (my right arm), set the saw on the base...no f@#$ing way...

Anyway here's what it let me make today...

    Kitchen knife set.

Should look sweet with these quilted maple scales.
