Sounds familiar! While I have many in a machinist chest I also have some in haversacks, hunting bags, glove box of car, dresser drawer, basement cabinet for outdoor stuff and junk drawer. There’s even a few stuffed in my shoes in the closet! Often times I’ll waste time trying to find a particular knife I’ve missed and want to carry or need. Went to Maine last week and had to settle for a folding fillet knife that I could find over the one I was looking for! First class problems.

But I could spend the money on another knife! Actually I may look into a middle section for below the existing one!

Most of the more expensive ones, or those with sentimental value are stored in the safe, but there's always a few others laying around:

a tool chest for my folders, fixed blades and multi tools. My axes are kind of all over the place, although I will need a bigger tool chest since my collection is ever growing:dblthumb:

Just to add my .02 cents worth I have picked up a few used silverware set wooden boxes minus the contents at the local thrift shops when I see them for like $2 a piece. Velvet lined, dividers already there but limits the knife size you can store based on handle and blade length but they work well for most of my mid size/ smaller blades.

I suppose it is nice to have the means to showcase knives, I haven't the room or interest. not my culture to show off stuff at home .
With 50 or 60 ( lost count) knives they are in drawers and suit case. some are in the shop some in the house and some in the barn ,the car the motorcycle .
Pretty much the same with guns and tools and such they are tools to me not paintings or pictures, which are put away .
The closest to a display is books and video tapes and CDs but even some of these are put in drawers and boxes for the lack of wall space .
Some cast iron ware hung behind the wood stove which is not for show.
Don't get me wrong I enjoy seeing your displays and I can appreciate the effort to provide the show case for them.
Visiting an antique store ,as my kids would say, " that stuff is not antique we use it all the time."
When the mystery of the formation of something is no more, so goes the romance .
    Enjoy your romance .

I’ve been inspired by my wine holder to make something similar for my knives. I figure if I make one 1’x1.5’ with 3” holes it can hold all knives plus a few future purchases

I'm to embarrassed to post my bucket-o-blades . I do keep my smaller belt and pocket blades a little more organized in a two drawer plastic storage container .

I had a buddy who was doing a throwing tournament and had some people who were users staying in his home. Despite having everything else valuable the sole thing he worried about were his knives. As anyone would :14: Hell take the gold but leave the silver

I've been using this old wooden box that used to have paintbrushes etc in it for my pocket knives and a drawer for my fixed blades until I find something bigger. Hatchets and saws are in the closet and under the bed. IMG_20190807_191645.jpg IMG_20190807_191546.jpg

My Randall knives are kept out of their sheaths with a light coat of oil on the blades and are on a shelf in my gun safe. (Except the one I wear all the time ). My folders are keep in a Tupperware container on another shelf.

I very much like this set up my friend! An excellent way to display and keep your knives safe from clanging around each other.

I may have to pick a few up for my nicer knives. Hope you don’t mind me using your idea.

    Lol!
It’s nothing glamorous. Just a bunch of plastic tubs stacked in a cubbard with shelves.
I use tubs and toss in a bunch of gel silica packets to keep the bad brown stuff away.

If I can find a better way to display, I’ll post some pics.

Okay, of course it's up to you, but the thread is asking about storage, not display... doesn't have to be glamorous.

Most of the rest are in labeled bins on a shelf downstairs. Have a bin of Leathermans, another of SAKs. Beer box of fixed blades too.

Someday gonna have them all in one place and do an actual head count.

Got this behind the couch, too.

My knives are just scattered around. Those in regular use are attached to or in my various packs and bags. A couple are in a nightstand drawer, cars, or tool chests. My edc's are in a small wooden valet tray with my keys and wallet.

I try to have knives present in the locations where I'm likely to need one. I don't really have a collection, so no interesting storage or displays.

Seems like repurposing (or specializing) toolchests for knife storage is a fairly common practice. I'm curious, though:

Those of you who do, with knives outside of sheaths (I guess that can apply to anybody who stores naked blades, wherever they store them), how do you then store their sheaths? Piled in a bucket? Neatly organized? Any way of recording which sheath goes with which knife other than memory? Or do you even care, just mix as match as you see fit?

That has been a problem in the past for me. I don't have a perfect solution for it but I do make a point to snap a picture of every knife rig just in case I forgot what it looked like.

They're in a bin and I go by fit and memory. I don't have enough overlap to make it an issue.

Don't believe a word she says, she ain't to be trusted.

It's just a cheap fillet knife that was a gift at a Ducks Unlimited banquet years ago.
I'm not opposed to cheap knives, and this one holds a damn keen edge, as long as you don't use it.
No manufacturer's name on it or steel type or anything.

I use a repurposed Plano box for my every day knives. The top is big enough for a Mora, and the compartments in the trays are about the right size for SAKs and three inch folders. The nice ones are in a display case mounted to the wall.

I use a big drawer under the workbench.
