Hey fellow Louisianans... just got a PM from my friend Jazilla over at Hammock Forums... he and a guy named Troy are putting together a LA hang in the Evangeline Campsite on the Wild Azalea Trail/Rec Area near Alexandria the weekend of 12-14 October. They're roasting a hog too, on Saturday night. This is the 3rd hang they're doing... had 3 people at the first one, 25 at the second... he said i could extend the invite over to you lot, especially since we had 9 hangers at our own April gathering... anyway, i know a bunch of us are already members of that forum as well, so get yourselves over to hammockforums and check it out.

    http://www.hammockforums.net/forum/showthread.php?p=753743#post753743

there's a link to his signup page too, for food planning... they're not gonna feed all of us every meal, but you get the idea.

Ok signed up and scheduled off for the entire weekend. Going to bring a large dutch oven and a fire spit for cooking a nice marinated pork loin and cooking breakfast as well. If the BCUSA bunch want to hang up together and chip in with our food I will smoke a couple pork butts before I come and share them as well as whatever we want to cook dessert wise in the dutch. Looking forward to seeing yall there! Bringing the mountain bike to ride on the trail as that is what its listed as now or atleast a section of it

I'll try to make it. Don't have a hammock and never slept in one. Any suggestions on a first timers hammock setup that won't break the bank ?

Hard to beat the Grand Trunk skeeter beeter pro for a full size hammock with insect netting (get online or if you have a discount tools near you they carry it in their camping section). Another one is Byers which you can get at Academy sports (but you need to buy the suspension for it which is usually right next to it and around $15). The grand trunk also has an ultra light version which is smaller and a little cheaper. Add a ridge line and a tarp, which can be a cheapy plastic up to something like the BCUSA tarp, and your set.

if we keep it up, we'll never look the same way at anything with carrots in it, including stew... guess we oughta quit while we're ahead.

does anyone realize that that saturday is opening day for primitive gun season? (well, in region 3, which is where I try to hunt.) But i guess seeing you all will be worth it...

Yup and bow season is Oct 1st as well as squirrel season the first weekend of Oct . I mentioned it a few days back on the hammock forum. I will have my licence and may bring a bow, just in case :)

I just finished tuning my bow and getting it ready. Now to find more time to practice...
I also just bought all the bits and pieces to make some whoopie slings and static ridge lines to make up before the hang.

Its official I will be unveiling a new piece of hammock gear at the hanging! I call it the UQ storm sock for lack of better names. Its a modular form fitting climashield UQ that integrates the bug net and or the storm shield into one package and allows for adjustable ventilation when winter camping and completely seals the UQ no matter your position inside the hammock except when you want to cross ventilate it. Several features designed into the hammock body itself that will keep the side of the hammock tight and adds an adjustable Structural ridgeline. I think you will be pretty surprised.

well, that, and a voice on the phone... seems to me that when you're not "sick", you're some sort of public servant too, but as i don't receive any of said services, yeah... just a maker of cool toys and a voice on the phone... LOL!

hey mods, Hunter will be requesting another name change... "Kris Kringle"... signature line will be "toy maker to the king". (get it? it's also a hockey joke... the LA Kings... but LA means Louisiana... ah, never mind.)

For this hockey fan.... The mocs were technically a team. For the deep south it was pretty ok. Lol miss live hockey.

yuppppppppppp! I have not lost interest in the hang ...... just other things! I have been building this rifle and have finished machining the slot for the oversized barrel ring. Man gun season cant get here quick enough for me! Cooler weather cant get here quick enough either! Its apearant nothing around me is quick enough for me! Must be the cabin fever from tearing up the knee.

same here... job status is still up in the air but i'll need a break, and this is it.

bow season starts this saturday. primitive starts the weekend of the hang, but i can wait... regular gun starts the next weekend.

got the stand ready a few weeks ago, with some finishing touches (camo) this past weekend. got a new (to me) used .45-70 sighted in yesterday, confirmed zero on my other rifle, and i'm ready to go. daughter put about 150 rounds through the .22 and had a great time as well.

now if i could just get something to show up on the camera, i'd know what i'm after... nothing but coons and crows on my corn... neighbor says the deer are all still holed up near the water, since food is plentiful. my stand is along a long line of hardwoods. acorns. come get 'em!
