    I have joined in partnership with @MrFixIt. I'm sure most, if not all of you have seen the carving tool box that he built last year. MrFixIt is building another one like it for this GAW. I am supplying a set of carving tools to put in his tote box so the winner will be able to take their carving tools anywhere. The tool set will consist of a Hatchet, Saw, Rasp, and Knives for carving everything from plain whittling to custom Kuksa's.

    Rules of engagement:
    1. Entrant must be a supporter.
    2. Entrant must post "I'm In"
    3. Entrant must post a picture of something they have carved*

    That's it, I will post pics of the prize as they are available.

    * Feather sticks don't count! :4:

    Update: What we have here is a True temper hatchet that I just put a new handle in and made it a pair of pants. There is a package of sandpaper from 80 to 400 grit from the dollar store. (it is good paper) We have a hole saw/reamer. Next is a Gerber/BG sliding saw. I'm including an almost new Hook knife. And right out of my personal tool box is a pair of Two Cherries carving knives. More updates as available! DSCI0226.JPG

    Uh Oh! I went shopping again, in my own workshop/spare bedroom. Found a few items that go along with carving. We have a 4 way rasp, a Marples card scraper for curves, here is a Robert Sorby gouge chisel, and a complete set of Riffler files. I "think" I'm done loading this GAW now, I will post a picture of the box and extras, that @MrFixIt is building to hold these tools. Someone is about to win a few hundred $ worth of carving kit. :57:
    DSCI0227.JPG
    Well here comes some extras from the man himself @MrFixIt . First we have an Antler burnishing tool, all polished up and ready go. Next is a very nice Strop, leather mounted on nice hardwood.
    burnishing tool.jpg
    strop.jpg
    More greatness to come, but don't hold your breath, we don't do corpses!

    *** This GAW will run for a couple weeks or until there are at least 25 entries. International entries are welcome if the entrant is willing to pay excess shipping.

    :41::41::41::41::41::41::41::41::41::41::41::41::41::41::41::41::41::41::41::41::41::41::41::41::41::41::41::41::41::41::41::41::41::41::41::41::41::41::41::41:

    I’m in!!!

    This sounds awesome. If you will allow me to, I will post a pic of my second attempt at making a spoon. The bowl is currently waiting for me to get a hook knife or gouges. The handle has been slimmed down since that pic.

    Never seriously tried carving anything. I did a wood duck years ago. Don't even know where it's at now.

    I'm in!
    I'm the newest of new to carving
    but the handful of things I've carved I've really enjoyed! Was just looking at carving knives this morning!

    Made a magic wand for a friend's birthday (big Harry Potter fan) and a failed spoon that was too dry. Lesson learned. Don't laugh lol. Some really talented carvers on here I've seen!!

    This is an excellent opportunity to receive carving tools.
    I would strongly suggest that if you are interested in carving but have not yet become a Supporter that you do so now. It’s only $36 for a year.

    Just a little FIY to go along with this thread. Most people like to carve green wood because it is easier to cut. The problems come as it does dry it can crack or warp and your carving can quickly become fire wood. I always use dry seasoned wood for carving. Use a saw or hatchet to get the basic shape and to get rid of the most excess wood. Then soak the piece in water for a little while. Carve away the wet wood that cuts easy. Repeat this process until finished. Your finished piece will dry very quickly and will not crack or warp. JMPO

    Great GAW. Not in as I have lots of carving knives and a new bucket buddy for storage.

    I concur with the use of dry wood. Ninety percent of my carving is done using dry wood. The only green wood carving I do is of characters, wood spirits or display pieces. I've learned that my low humidity dries every green piece too quickly.

    So my entry will be a bit different. There won’t be any spoons or the like. But there will be an axe handle I’m in the process of making, a knife handle I made, and some ornaments I made out of a mistletoe.
    I don’t have any carving tools other than my Mora Bushcraft Black, Opinel 8, and Grifhold craft knife, so as you can see the finished products are still reasonably rough (at least compared to some of the other entries!)
    Thanks for your EXTREMELY generous gaw @MrFixIt and @Daniel Klinglesmith !

    I'm going to have to withdraw from the GAW as my supporter status just lapsed and going to be a few fays til i can renew it. :( If an Otzi knife counts . I made the blade from a deer femur and carved the handle from a maple branch. I used my Mora companion HD.

    The beads were made from antler and a whitetail talus bone.

    I'm in!
    This is a Hoku knife I made for a Bushclass lesson using a Mora 511 and a folding saw. It cut paracord!

    Special Notice: Got a message from Jason - @jswi2374 His request is "Should my number come up, please announce that the winner was @CowboyJesus. His garage was recently broken into and many of his "toys" were stolen." Your wish is my command Jason. Thank you!
