I just got a eno singlenest at Rei that I will post up some pics of later now let's see yours
My Poncho Pod underquilt
My Poncho Pod on a DIY hammock under a Jack R Better Sil-nylon tarp
Poncho Pod in action...LOL
Another one of my set ups being used by a buddy...Claytor No Net under an ol' blue tarp.
Warbonnet Blackbird 1.7 with Flamethrower down underquilt. Tough to find trees here, so I have to improvise.
The bag on the left strap is a bishop's bag. It has draw cords on both ends and it used to store the hammock for packing.
comes with child, will take offers on the kid, hammock is mine! haha nah kidding
Check out in the Illinois section---Southern Illinois meetup thread. Hammocks, tarps and tents, oh my! Warning pics are about 36 pages into the thread.
Here's my Hennessy Explorer Deluxe with large Hex Fly and Hennessy Supershelter.
One I set up in my Suburban:
Functional but not fancy...
Here's a close up of the rings I made at work. They hold solid!
I'm NOT a hammock guy.. I have this fear of, well, falling... but even *I* want a warbonnet. Those things look like they'll fit me and my fear.
Grand Trunk Skeeter Beeter Pro:
Warbonnet Blackbird double 1.7, MacCat Deluxe silnylon tarp with custom snakeskins, Hammockgear 900 fill Winter crowsnest (Phoenix) 3/4 underquilt, 900 fill Winter Burrow topquilt, gossamer gear 1/4" foot pad and kelty ground tarp. This is my 4-season setup. It is rated to 0 F. Any colder and a closed cell pad goes between the layers of the hammock.
Great pics guys!!!
Nice set up Tom. Any week now.
Fairly simple set up, but comfy. I've always stayed warm and dry in it.
This is a 2008 model DD Travel Hammock that I have since retired. I am now using a Warbonnet BlackBird but do not have any pics just yet. This photo was taken on a day hike so the tarp wasn't deployed.
I have 3 hammocks, a hennessy, and eno single, and a grand trunk multi use one. they all have their pluses. here in the desert trees are at a premium, so I find the grand trunk combined with my go lite poncho tarp to be the most practical. I can use it as a hammock if their is trees available and the poncho as my rain fly. or I can set it up as a lean to, or use the poncho tarp as a lean to and use the grand trunk as a ground sheet. it's major draw back is no bug netting, which is generally not a problem. if the bugs are thick and trees are plentiful then the Hennessy is great, its the fastest to put up and the most comfortable IMO. my only gripe about it is the underside entrance takes a little getting used to. finally the eno I take on day hikes because its so compact, and just use it for a chair or lounging around.
here is a pic of me in my eno, I'm not sure if I have pics using the others.
this picture was taken in july at about 8500 feet above sea level at one of my favorite fishing spots. notice the snow, the next canyon down the way has a year round glacier.
Is that place in Idaho? It looks familiar
northern nevada, Ruby Mountain wilderness area..
Silverlion, that Suburban setup is awesome!
Here is a pic of my HH Expedition w/hex fly and super shelter doing some cold weather testing of different insulating material. I want to send it off to have a zip put in, just been putting it off.
nice rings, I use regular alum decender rings. What are those made of?
Cracker those are made from solid aluminum round stock we had at work. I believe they are 3" diameter. I made them because I couldn't get my hands on descending rings at the time. Since then, I've ordered a few sets to have around. I like my custom set because the flats are around 1/2" wide and it really pinches the nylon strap in between them. I feel really safe and secure with them!
Thanks for all the set up pics! REI just told me that the new date they expect to have my back ordered Hennessy is 10 April. I guess it will be at least another 3 weeks before I can hang.
I can see where the flats would be better on a bight of web than rope(more surface area)
I have to say that I like the look of the alum flat rings too...I used to use descender rings but have since switched out my suspension connection to a set of 1" cinch buckles. Super easy set up and with a Ridge Line, Looped 1" straps and the buckles attached to the hammock with Amsteel...from backpack to full set up is under 3 minutes...more like under two!!!
Yeah, I really like my rings, but those cinch buckles look great too alex! I might just have to pick up a pair. My rings are a little on the bulky side and not for gram weenies either!
My rings are indestructible though!
This is a set of descender rings I had set up once on a "Survival Hammock"...It was set up with Sil-nylon to be water proof and able to be used as a ground cloth, tent or tarp...bad move to try to sleep in it though...condensation has NO WHERE TO GO!!!...I'll have set up my Claytor No Net one evening and get a few photos for yall.
Summer heat, a bedsheet and paracord + a few targets in front of me...
Looks like a nice way to spend an afternoon.
Yeah, I noticed the snow and the short sleeve shirt and shorts your wearing. You are crazy! ahahha
I use a Henessey Hex tarp with it.
When I go really lightweight, I carry my ENO Doublenest and an 8x10 silnylon tarp.
Similar thread over on BcUK so I'll do a bit of copypasta..
