I'm searching for some antlers, and maybe I'm being too picky, but for the life of me, I can't find straight, long enough pieces for what I need. I know I could boil and straighten if needed, but I'd prefer not to for limited resources I have on hand to do so

Unfortunately for me, I can't let myself "settle" for one that may work.

Have you, I am looking locally at one store down by me that is antlers, but jeeze. They're hard to find the right ones i need

Here is the project in question on hold until I find that perfect piece I need

Why don't you buy some Sambar Stag horn from a knife building supply store off of the internet?

Or go to a pet supply store and pick through their bins. Maybe an elk antler would give you a straight enough section.

Whitetail antler is pretty tough to find in 5" straight lengths because of their corkscrew shape. Usually what I do is go Scagel style--leather washers up front, antler crown in back.

Sometimes you can adapt the handle to fit what you're looking for.

Flea markets are a good place to look. I get pieces of elk antler like the one in this photo that they sell as dog chew for 6 bucks. Smaller pieces are 15 bucks at Walmart! They have all different sizes.

Anything special to do on the pith on antler or bone handles? I worry about it being weak. Similar question about using cow bone or whitetail antlers as slabs on a full tang.

You can drill or cut it out and fill the cavity with epoxy.

I think Axis deer would be a good fit. Long straight tines and I don;t think you need to worry about the center being soft.

Scagel knives. The recluse lived just a few miles from me.

Thanks everyone. I think I'm either going to look at axis deer or boil and straigten some white tail to fit my needs. I'm hoping to find a piece long enough so I can use only 5-6 leather spacers
