It is pleasant to carry a big stick-type light, have it around the house or in the vehicle. With modern lithium-ion tech and better LED's flashlights tend to get smaller (and more powerful). Many stick-type lights still sold use many AAs or D-cells which is outdated tech for the most part and more something for backup. Most of the lights sold in large stores are kind of lower quality lights anyways. It is a bit sad that Maglite did not go with the times although they have done some updates on their basic design.

However, if you are interested in a modern take on the Maglite-style light the Sofirn SP70 might be interesting to you:

+ 5500+ lumens, excellent heat sinking
+ modern UI with ramping, mechanical primary switch (tactical forward clicky for signal application), secondary mode switch
    + IPX 8
    + powered 2x 26650 or 2x 18650 lithium ion cells
+ reaches out about half a mile, massive reflector
+ electronic safety mechanisms against overheating, undervoltage and so on...
    + ...

The quality for the price is amazing and they have improved their products over the last 2 years. The SP70 has no competition right now.
