I decided to give out some Mors kochanski style cattail dolls for xmas gifts. He has some good videos on you tube on how to make a basic one, so this isn't a how to but heres some pics of making mine.

One thing I do different is I harvest some cattails green and dry them in the shade. By doing this the green color will stay for 6 months to a year at least. I then harvest ones that recently turned brown and let them dry this gives me two different colors for the dolls.

I start with the head. But I leave a cattail hanging off the back to make a pony tail.

I cover the back of the head with green cattails to make a hood leaving the pony tail dangling out. I wrap the neck with a green one and reverse twist it to make a scarf.

I cut the body to length the head is 1/7th the size of the person and a persons arms are about as long as they are tall. Then twist up some arms.

with the arms inserted I cover the shoulders and wrap the waist adding a layer of brown leaves for an apron.

I trim the skirt and apron to length.

Next I add a stick of willow and more cattails for a broom.

Only because I have limited crafting skills...I didn't think that these would look so nice when I first clicked on the thread.

Great job, Chris. Looks like a fun project to do with the Mrs. or the kids.

Those are neat unless you are hiking in the woods and start seeing them tucked into spots along the trail or hanging from trees.
