we did a pretty epic hike yesterday. i'm prepping for the distant hunt season. i find as i get older (and older) i need to prep earlier and earlier. i remember the days; all i needed to do was to find my boots. now? full on physical preparations. i loaded up my hunting day pack as training ballast. about 30 lbs. then a group of us hiked up a trail called "sea to sky" almost 4000 feet elevation gain. the signs are jacked up. my GPS said we walked closer to 18 miles there and back. my wife did awesome. my dog was smart enough to know when she needed help and would pull her up hills. took us 8 hours. now? i grunt when i get up from my desk. sore is an understatement. i'm scared when i have to poop..deep knee bends are gonna ache i need a lot more work. a pack full of elk would have buckled me.
