I am getting ready to update my local trails guide so I am looking for recommendation on a mapping app. Nothing fancy, just plot my route as I hike it or allow me to draw the route, then save as a graphics file. If it generates a scale (1 inch equals 1 mile or similar) even better.

Free is bet of course but I'll pay a few dollars for something that meets my needs.

    Thanks.

It looks like it's still I beta but available for phone thru email at the bottom of the page. My provincial government recently developed apps for trails, pollution reporting and so on. Looks like yours is doing similar. Good luck.

Look into Avenza. Used it on a recent training rotation. You can download maps, plot points/routes etc. Put it in airplane mode with GPS on and it will still track you, without burning your battery. You can save your maps and email them to others to use.
