It seems like every time I get a day off, I head for my waterfall :) Yesterday it was windy and kind of cold, but with a few layers I was okay (if I kept moving).

Spotted some dog tracks on the way in, which makes me kind of nervous. We have packs of dogs in my area, and they can be aggressive. I kept my neck knife handy.

I had my REI Trail 40 loaded to right at 20 pounds. I really like this pack. It has plenty of organization and places to tie things on the outside, and it fits extremely well. It doesn't flop around. I barely felt it on my back (my legs knew it was there though ), and today I'm not sore at all.

    I love these woods :)

    DSCN6687.JPG
After a quick snack break I headed out to find some antlers.

    DSCN6688.JPG
I had to keep an eye on the sky. It was looking like rain.

    DSCN6693.JPG

I tracked this one all the way across the field.

    DSCN6690.JPG
One scrap of something that barely looked like an antler, and then this!

    DSCN6695.JPG
Now for a good sit :) Just in case it started raining I set up a roof. Wish I had something for a wind block! Brr!

    DSCN6700.JPG
This prong was broken almost off, so I pulled it loose and tried to break it. So much for that...

    DSCN6701.JPG
So I sawed the rough end off and saved it to use for flint knapping.

Of course I got hungry again! I had some oatmeal in my cook kit. It was way too windy, so I climbed down beside my waterfall where it was better protected.

    DSCN6707.JPG

    DSCN6708.JPG

I always put too much water in. Oatmeal soup! Yuck! Back it went on the stove to boil out some water.

    DSCN6711.JPG

    Much better :)

    DSCN6713.JPG

After I ate I read awhile and broke out a cool game I picked up for camping. This thing is cool. There are a ton of games you can play with the same set of pieces. I have a plan (and materials coming) for a homemade version :D

    DSCN6715.JPG

Time to head home. One last pic of my creek :)

    DSCN6716.JPG

It was a great trip, as usual! I can't wait for warmer weather. Maybe they'll finally fix our internet at home  and I won't have to only log in/post stuff at work.

No internet at home sucks. I was wondering about your slowdown in posting. It will be good to see you posting more soon. :)

Very nice trip, and you found an antler too! Major score. :) And no snow:)

What fun. You have a nice spot. I just checked, I still can’t get to mine. Hopefully next week.

    Suggestions:

Find a piece of tyvek and roll it up in an old peanut butter or mayonaise jar (plastic one) and hide it out there near your sitting spot. That way you will have a wind break that you don’t have to carry along every time. I am planning on ‘hiding’ some things at my spot too.
Dogs, I was going to suggest a staff but I see you use poles. IMO, if dogs come after you, drop one pole and use the other as a two handed spear. They won’t like being stuck with those. Longer handle than the knife. I carry a gun...

I really like your chair. Thanks for taking us along and sharing the ‘soup’. :D

It sure does! Between having to post at work and being extra busy while I'm there (continuing education - they even gave me homework!) it's really slowed me down. But the guys were here when I got home today and they seem to have us back in business! For the moment, anyway. Until the next storm  We've lost several computers and modems to storms in the last few years. It apparently fried the connection to the computer, but the wifi will still work on my sloooooow laptop. The phone's fried too.

What a great day! We're hoping to find a shed antler this year too. Cool! I'm glad you didn't run into any dogs but I'm glad you're armed in case you do! Your spot looks great. I'd have a hard time wanting to go home. Thanks for bringing us with you, Hannah!

It's a very relaxing spot - just a patch of woods that feels untouched by people and progress :) I'm glad dogs don't seem to roam that way very often! Plenty of deer and turkey, and I'm sure coyote.

Hopefully this will be the year you find one! Here I think the varmints get to them first :(

Nice outing, everyone needs a special place in the woods they can call their own.

Looks like a fun trip @HannahT ! Regarding packs of aggressive dogs, if you have issues with them in your area, bear spray is also a good option.

Nice jaunt and good find! I'm horrible at finding detached antlers. I find bones, skulls and feathers all the time in the woods, but sheds elude me.
