THE MAN THE MYTH THE LEGEND Matt Graham has his own show on Discovery. First challenge is demonstrating how to make an Atlatl and Dart from only natural materials and a bush knife.

Here's the link to a teaser vid on his Youtube Channel-

Unfortunately I saw a commercial yesterday for a new season of "Running Wild with Bear Grylls" or something along those lines. My only thought is why?

It should be good. Matt knows his stuff. It always amused me on Dual Survival. He would find water, build a shelter, lay back and want to stay for a while. Build an atlatl, roast a pig or two. I think he would have been perfectly happy when they found him six months later. He would probably have put on a few pounds, too.

I went through my channel guide yesterday, Dish, and couldn't find a listing. I also checked Discovery's website and didn't find anything.

Interesting, I found it but it seems to only be 2 minutes long according to DirecTV.

    Is this correct?

Recording set, November 15th at 10pm on Discovery HD here on the left coast. Can't wait to see it! An actual bushcraft show on TV that's not a Ray Mears rerun.

Guess Discovery is airing it earlier as I am watching it right now (noon). I’m OK with it as it’s a crappy rainy day here!

Wasn't impressed with what they chose to use for there one item. Most useful tool the one team had was a real size bow saw. Your building a long term shelter where's your AXE!!!!!!!!

That was the first question I asked. It makes me wonder if there's some sort of limit on the tools. Do they have to be a certain weight and/or fit in a certain space? Because a folding saw and what looked like a tomahawk wouldn't be my first choices.
    • The differences between the tools you would use to process trees vs. branches
    • Consider what they kept saying about 'calories' - are these the most efficient tools for the job?
    • No one is asking anyone to carry these in across hill and dale, so weight is not a big issue.
    • How about we give both teams an axe, a bucksaw, and everyone gets to bring a knife.
That being said, it was a fun program. I like Matt Graham and I wish him every success. I first saw him on 'Dude, You're Screwed' and have enjoyed his work ever since.

Looking forward to the next episode. I'm hoping they ask some of the contestants what they brought and why.

And the bow saw was in miserable shape, dull and not set in the teeth, as it was binding in the cut.

Last night's was the second episode aired. The first episode aired was discussed in the homesteading forum. I know the show is slowwww...but I really enjoy it, and found myself looking forward to the second episode. Even so, I still feel like the episodes are out of order, or we're missing a first episode of sorts that explains the whole competition, rules and restrictions, etc.

I always though Matt was the best on dual survival and wished he had he own show, but mainly because he had more or a "let's stay here safe and comfortable rather than shimmy naked down some poison ivy or jump on to jagged rocks to complete the mission"! I guess I'm not much of a survivalist :). Drinking my own pee or sleeping in a rotten camel carcass are nice options to have, but last resorts in my book...

The builds so far are mixed bags, but some nice skills displayed. I know I'd probably make some strange choices in the same (competitive) situation, too. The elevated shelter in particular would be challenging even without time and tool constraints, whatever those are specifically.

Just watched the first episode... couldn’t believe when Matt was showing his technique for using an antler to cut down a tree, he didn’t know the difference between a mule deer antler and a ELK!!! :34: Lol!

Taking a quote from the same topic in the homesteading forum...

    That.

I sat through the first two episodes. When I saw that the opening challenge in episode 3 was to make a rock float with logs, I turned it off and haven't gone back.

I'd rather go watch videos from my favorite bushcrafters on Youtube.

I think a great show would be to give BG a 2 day head start then have Matt track him and tag him with an atlatle dart.
