Alright Louisiana peeps, it's (way past) time to plan a meet up. Is anyone interested? I would like to plan something in March or maybe the last weekend in February. Or whatever will work for the group. Just gauging interest at this point, so location will depend on the whereabouts of most of the group. Some of you folks have great skills in different areas and would love to discuss some classes.

    @Hoof @herbay870 @Nonc-Tobe @Micah @MidSouthOutdoors @Miles7 @Blu or any others from Louisiana I haven't listed. Also would welcome our TX and MS friends and any others @saustin1967 @Hammbone @rcwells

Edit: Changed title from "Hello, Is Anyone Out There?" Gonna lock in a paddle trip on Memorial Day Weekend at Toledo Bend (Coon Point). More to follow below...

I’d be in if we are back home whenever you guys settle on a date. I’m in PA working right now and don’t know when I’ll be home.
    Keep me posted!

    Thanks

Don't think March is swimming weather. And if Toledo is up like Rayburn, might be able to paddle to camp @Coon Point.
    Let me know.

For me it would depend on when and where, I'll keep an eye on this. I always enjoy a group camp out.

I'm okay with doing something down your way. Some of the others live on that side of the state as well.

You should. I left a sterno stove in the woodpile, and a tripod in that yaupon tangle. And tell that big oak i said 'hey'.

Thanks... I'd appreciate that... I stopped by to say 'bye' on my trip in April... weird. i kinda felt it might be the last time.

and for you lot who think i'm crazy, that's fine... (but they do talk, in their own way... and they're aware of things.)

Was hoping to see where the majority of those interested were from and do something central to that. Maybe something not too remote, like a state park.

yeah, I have tried that for years over here. No one want to commit until a location is set and date time is decided.
everyone wants some one else to decide.

I am good with a kisatchie hike in, or a Coon Point paddle in, just don't know about March.
Got a lot going Feb, Mar, Apr.

I'm always good with a Coon Point trip. What do you have open in May, maybe Memorial Day weekend (24-27 May)?

Okay, we will plan on a trip to Coon Point.

For those that don't know, Coon Point is a spot out in Toledo Bend on the Louisiana Texas border where we have done several trips in the past. It is about a mile canoe trip, but there is also a way to hike in if folks would rather do that. I'll post some links to some of our previous trip reports. Some of our members have moved to other areas and we would love to have some new faces. So if you are from Central/West Louisiana or E. Texas this would be somewhat local.

I have no issues doing some less aggressive trips, such as pulling up to a state park and loafing around a camp fire telling tales and cooking from a black pot. Let me know what you can do, may be others waiting for something like that.

I'm going to attempt to make it to Neches with the TX group next weekend. My biggest obstacle is work. Seems like I get the call to go somewhere days before there is a planned outing.
Grew up on the Lake Erie coast in NE Ohio. I miss playing on the water, so I am especially interested in your canoe trips (even though I am building a jon boat w/ sail).

Its been a while since I have checked in glad I did was quiet on here for some time. We are trying to buy a house and realtors predicting a March closing but could be delayed by Government shutdowns, house inspection and so on. Moving sucks but if I can make it out than surly will. Hopefully will be done with the move by then. Hope all is well and glad to see everyone...

Me and my oldest are going to head out to Coon Point for a "scouting" trip and maybe get a stash of fire wood built up and what not. If anyone wants to come out we would love the help company, lol. Probably going to end up just bumming around the fire and drinking coffee.

@Ossmaninthewild needs no babysitting... we've done at least 2 overnight trips together, to coon point for one, and all the way out to the end of the high ridge trail, and then cross country to the little pond at the bottom of my hill for the other... we've also done at least 1 day trip coming in the other way, up the hill and down to the pond... young, strong, and brings all his own stuff (no borrowing. so that's good.)

It'd be a good excuse to paddle around south La. I've crossed the Atchafalaya a few dozen times back when I was a long haul trucker and always wanted to get out there. Not sure how much different the area Coon point is though, but it's bound to be a good time. Would you recommend a canoe or kayak down there?

The Sabine NF is much like what you'd see in MS (pine forest) and is on the east TX and west LA boundary. Toledo Bend is the main reservoir, but we paddle down an area called Buck Creek on the south west side of the reservoir (which is actually on the TX side). Most of us use canoes, but some use kayaks. Either work fine, just depends on how/what you pack.

I'll start a PM soon for all who are interested and show a map and other details.
