Thanks @HalfTreaded , by the way I threw a new dry wood Bahco blade on that saw today, so it should be much better for processing firewood this year.

I'm going to bring my foam pad and my green MSS bag, but leave them in the truck. I'll have my hammock, reflectix, sheet and 2 wool blankets. I'm bringing a large tarp (can't remember what size) that will be staked out. I sleep warm, so don't think I'll have any issues. Really looking forward to this. Decided to take a half day off work, so should be down there by 1330 or so. I can help with wood or whatever.

Just to clarify, no need to hump water in as Tom's Run is in close proximity, correct?

FYI, there's a piped spring (pipe was clogged last year) a couple hundred yards southbound on the AT. I think it used to be significant because once upon a time it marked the center of the AT in the 40's

I believe PGFSP parking has a nice restroom there with toilets, you know, if things get real desperate

@designtom haven't seen you around in a while! Are you and chocolatespatula still planning to come tomorrow night?

Heading out from home now. So my ETA is 9:45. Based on this, unless I hear differently, I'll probably bum around close to PGFSP parking lot until people arrive to hike up to the site. See you guys soon.

Last time I was there good dry hardwood was pretty sparse. If no one at the meet up gets back to ya you could be the hero if you showed up with good wood lol

@HalfTreaded thank you for organizing an awesome meet-up! I had a great time and enjoyed meeting some BCUSA members. I look forward to seeing everyone again in the future.

Camp sure looks pretty with the fresh snow!

@Sbrody did caveman steak Friday night. I was too full of broiled pork chops and mashed potatoes to try any but I hear it was excellent.

"First dinner", a late afternoon snack courtesy of @lyco.woodsrunner and his secret steak marinade. @ChocolateSpatula? was elected 'chef' and produced these culinary masterpieces on a bushcraft plate, from which the assembled masses partook as if they were hors-d'eurves at a party.
    IMAG2713.jpg

Charlie the wonder dog (@designtom's) wonders where HIS meat was. IMAG2714.jpg

My hootch, the usual plowpoint. For those interested, I pointed it to the East, since most weather comes from South, West or North, figuring I was pretty safe... Close... it came from the East. But not too badly, and not blowing. You can see in @HalfTreaded's pic of my setup above that I stayed dry. The snow did push way down on my tarp overnight though, and in future winter trips, the technique will be to sleep right in the center, along the midline, not over to one edge like i usually do.

Second dinner (early evening). @ChocolateSpatula?'s own dinner, salmon ala log slab. With some rice (might have been @GoKartz's. IMAG2716.jpg

View from my hootch around lunchtime, just before we tore down and left. Snowfall was about 3", maybe 4" on the car where I was parked.

A thanks again to everyone I met (and half of whom I cannot remember) for what I learned from you, and I look forward to the Meat Rock trip next month!

Charbroiled venison steak anyone ? Charlie got most of the burnt side, he didn't complain.

    20190113_112533.jpg
@Lode was this yours? We discussed pros/cons of leaving it there since that would be the easiest way to get back to you.

FYI, I pulled out earlier than anticipated, and in a rush because Charlie had latched onto a hiking group (the challenges of friendly and social beast). A dozen exchange students who barely spoke a word of English left him at the bridge (a 100 yards from campsite) with an American jogger/trail runner who was glad I came a looking for him.

I had a really good time with everyone. Upon leaving out Saturday evening I took the time to coast home on the dirt roads and enjoy that snowfall. It's always nice to be the 1st to carve a trail through the old logging roads of those mountains with accumulation.

@Outdoor Dauber sorry we missed meeting up. Was that you in the Jeep that Bo and I passed coming in?

@Juany118 I loved that OR hat. I wish they made it in XXL! I hope the finger heals up for you quickly and it doesn't affect your range time. I'm glad you suffered for the group the 'worst thing that happened all weekend'. Appreciate you taking that one for the team.

@designtom thanks for the tarp! That thing is great and so useful for weather we've had the last 2 times up there. 3rd time for us meeting up at BCUSA gatherings. Moxie had a great time running the brambles with Charlie.

@ChocolateSpatula? grats on your 1st fire starting with non conventional methods. If you search Amazon for self grip tape there's a lot of results if you'd like that in your kit. Thanks for cooking for the group.

@Seeker hopefully you can get your hands on a silicon wedding band. I enjoy hearing your stories of days in armor and look forward to more someday.

@GoKartz glad we finally made acquaintances! I wish we'd have found each other in the woods prior on your Tom's run shelter stay. If you decide to make that trip again, let's exchange numbers. I reserve this compliment to a rarity... 'fine beard my friend.'

@HalfTreaded Thanks for the leg work and videos to get every guided in and on point. 4 BCUSA meet ups for you and me! Watching your woodsman progress through the years has been enjoyable.

@Odinborn happy to hear things are stable for you. Hope those weren't too bulky on the hike out and you enjoy the blanks and get some time to make wood chips. I'd love to see something you craft from those pieces.

@ANFwoodsman was good to see you again after the hiatus from Wolfcri's hosted Pine Barrens meet up. I'm still in envy of your groomsman's gifts! I hope you soon buy some stock in Propane and Propane Accessories.

@Sbrody Everyone needs it!!!! AMAZON search for camo tape

@lyco.woodsrunner my apologies for not having much worthy of perusing for my blade collection. I'll bring @twyych around sometime with his tote of sharps and you guys can blade geek, hehe. His newest Carother's is something special! The meat was delicious and marinade was perfectly balanced. Let's get some lyco mud on my truck!

Thanks for the memories folks. It's always nice to get out and shake off some winter time cabin fever and hang with like minded folks in the woods.

    Until next time.

These are wonderful pictures - especially love seeing all tents/tarps after a good night of snowfall.
Had a great time, learning with great people. Very thankful to everyone for imparting bits of knowledge, humor, stories, food, drink, and copious amounts of flint.

Unless you're at the house when Santa stops by... you don't get to see his likeness. It might be just a tad inappropriate for the younger crowd that peruses these forums and go against the spirit that BCUSA maintains.

Feel free to share it via 'private message' or 'conversation' with the meet up participants. Heck, now I'm curious as to how that shot turned out, hehe.

I have no idea what the Bushcraft santa photo is, so I'm going to throw a vote towards seeing it in PM!

I don't know about being a cog in the wheel, but I am just another brick in the wall....

My pictures didn't turn out too great, but here are a few:

Thanks to @Lode my pack was a bit heavier on the way out than it had been on the way in. Definitely didn't need my hobo hat with all the sweating I was doing on the rocky AT! By the way, the Crocs fit great; I might need to carve a stick to keep all the ladies away when they see me wearing them :p

Here's a pic that shows @ANFwoodsman 's scramble and our fancy bushcrafter platter.

First night there: @x19delta @Forestcactus @Outdoor Dauber (correct me if I'm wrong, as this picture was taken 5 seconds after the coldest pee of my life)

Here's the photo that I thought turned out better than it did. Shows the shelters of (I believe) @ANFwoodsman @Sbrody and @Juany118 shining through the pitch black of the cold night.
