I am taking a trip with my son from New England to DC.
    Plan on stopping in Gettysburg.

Any really cool military surplus stores in the PA / VA area?

    Thanks

I don't recall seeing a good one. I remember stopping at a few in the area. I think that you will like Gettysburg. I certainly did.

On the way there you may want to stop at an Amish buffet. They generally have the same foods as a Cracker Barrel (which I like) but better quality. Philidelphia has some interesting sights including Liberty Hall.

Roman's in Chambersburg, PA. Some deals to be had. Heavy with clothing.
If you can make it to Coleman's in Millersburg, that's where I'd go.

I love the Dobbin House Tavern in Gettysburg for lunch, go to the Springhouse Tavern in the basement(it's the casual part). The King's Onion soup is pretty good plus it is all candle lit just like in 1776. Adams County (Gettysburg is the county seat) is also the fruit belt of PA. Lots of sweet corn and fruits of all types to be had this time of year. And if you're so inclined, PA is going through a renaissance of cider, perry, beer, wine and distilled spirits production. Gettysburg has several of each.

I forgot about Colemans. I highly recommend it. I have ordered from them and admired their gear. You may be able to find mead in PA. I found some in Bethlehem nearby the historic Hotel Bethlehem. They have good ciders too. Better then Strongbow or Magners.

My vote also goes to Coleman's, I've been there a few times and it's great. If your travels takes you near Clearfield, PA I would give Grice's a stop. It's a massive gun store with lots of other stuff to look at (and I truly do mean massive).

Yeah, depending on your route and where you want to stop.

    Priority One Surplus

It's between Cabelas and Walmart. Great stuff there. Very nice clothing. Not a bunch of stinky, moldy European stuff sized XS. Some surplus. Some military issue, but new. Decent selection of bleeding control supplies (Israeli bandages, CATs, SWAT-Ts, etc.).

I never fail to stop there if I have time when I'm down that way for work. I'll skip Cabelas, though.

Not a surplus store, but Zippo/Case is headquartered in Bradford, Pa. I've never been there, but they have a museum and store there

If you'll be travelling through the Hershey, PA area, Top Gun Military Apparel is about 3 miles from downtown Hershey. It's a small, locally owned shop, probably 5,000 or 6,000 sf, and they have new and used military and tactical gear. It's one of those packed to the gills places where you never know what you might find, with lots of tupperware tubs to dig through.

There is a small but decent mil-surp store on the main street in Gettysburg. I bought a Finnish gas mask bag there for $10 as I recall.

I was in Gettysburg last week and passed right by that store. I should have stopped!

I stopped there years ago. They had a bunch of stuff. I didn’t have time to look at all of it. I do remember it was kinda half museum half surplus.
If you go into York County in the Red Lion area there’s a huge flea market there. Lots of antiques, Amish foods (shoo fly pie is really good), and other great stuff there. I bought an antique Sheffield butcher there for $1.00.
