    UPDATE: 01-10-18
AWESOME NEWS! Puget Sound Knappers will be joining us Saturday at 9am and passing on their knowledge of flint knapping. This is a skill set I know very little about and can't wait to learn.

    UPDATE 12-30-17:

only two weeks away and it looks like some new guys will be coming, which is awesome. Here's the low down on what to expect:
    1. cost is a donation of $15-20 bucks to help me cover the cost of the park and the purchase of lots of meat and breakfast goods. Whatever is left goes to the local food bank as a donation on behalf of the PNW BCUSA group. bring nonperishable to donate as well. Thank you
    2. Bring a potluck dish to share for the Saturday afternoon/ dinner meal around 4ish. It should be enough for roughly 8 people.I will have chickens and beef roast going on the fire.
    3. Tent and hammock camping are allowed. Fires are to only be at the designated fire areas unless you are outfitted with a tent stove.
    4. This is a state park so animals are to remain on a leash and you need to keep them under control. You love your dog, don't make the rest of us not like it.
    5. We keep this very family friendly so bring them along. I have yet to see a kid not smile at least once during the weekend.
    6. there is a decent restroom area (men's and women's) and potable water onsite.
    7. we usually try for one or two activities and then sit around and enjoy each other's company.
    8. come ready for weather. a single wool blanket only work on youtube, make sure you sleep well and stay warm and dry.
    9. we are located in the G1 spot near the ranger/pay station up in the trees. You don't need to pay for the park use I have done that just make sure you get a pass from me for your dash board.
    10. bring an arm load of fire wood if you can.
    11. There is a large covered area in case the weather turns bad too.

The activity this round will be a giant bowdrill fire. If you guys have access to 3-4" logs about 7-8' long please let me know. we will need about 10 or 12 of them. any wood type will work as long as they are fairly strait and sound. I will show up with the logs for it. The video below is where I got an idea for a big bow drill setup.
    Enjoy

Really would like to get back together with you guys...will put it on the calendar but to be honest the weather has a lot to do with it. Pretty bad time of the year for us driving wise.

    Hey there @Log_Lump!

Its a camp ground in a state park, so gathering natural materials is pretty limited. Probably best to bring stuff you want to work with and a bit of firewood too.

I don't know the regulations, but it's more of a campground than a wilderness area. You might be able to pull it off by roping off a specific area, but there are campsites spread out through the bushes and little kids running around, so it's probably not the right environment.

Love this idea, that's one I have thought about for a very long time. I've seen a few vids on it, but I think we can do way better. What's the record for friction fire drill size?

Depending on how big we want to go, a small cedar trunk seems like a good place to start. I can bring a big chunk of fatwood for the bearing block up top. We'll also need to put some thought into the cordage as I don't think paracord is going to cut it if we have a dozen people yanking on it.

@NWPrimate real para cord will do it. I have used para cord to put broken track back on a M2 Bradley. The problem with para cord for a giant strap drill would be hand gripping points.
