    I decided to do a video on the subject of cordage storage.

    I got inspired today by a post @hicountry put up. He is selling some very cool old surplus items.

    https://bushcraftusa.com/forum/threads/swiss-army-items.198414/

    I bought one of each. But, I am really stoked about the twin roll of wire and waxed jute. I decided to make a smaller version.

    I started with a business card sized piece of OD green Kydex and used a 3/8" spade bit to make 3 sets of notches.

    [IMG]

    I then wrapped waxed jute, brass snare wire, and 200lbs Tecnora line around it. Worked pretty slick.

    [IMG]

    I also added some Ranger Bands to keep stuff in place. Because I can never leave well enough alone, I opted to add some other essentials to this compact kit.

    So now I have fire, signaling, a couple of cutting tools, and improvising materials in a very light and small package.

    Nice compact kit. I like the idea of having multiple cordage. In the past I have just used kite string holders for the cordage.

    Hard wax or lacquer a chunk of heavy cardboard. The back panel of a notepad, a couple layers of cereal box glued together, a few strips out of a FedEx box, whatever is there and taking up space.

    I'm eyeballing a cardboard Taco Bell box, myself. A little cutting, some glue and a couple coats of spray lacquer should get the job done...

    @IA Woodsman - great idea. Mind if we it add to to the 1000's of your ideas we've all copied?

    Just a thought - slap a rare earth magnet on it so it sticks to your metal water bottle and you have a great walk about kit.

    That is a slick idea there bud!
    Any idea how much cordage you put on there?
    I like @freebirdfb idea also, though both are similar in creation. @IA Woodsman's method is like the 2.0 version!
    Awesome idea brothers,

    Made a bigger cordage card, and put the original wooden one in the pic as well.

    Did you make the bobbers yourself?

    Great idea reminds me of the multi-colored thread things that come in seeing repair kits. Great stuff!

    i did not make the bobbers but imagine i coud out of a wine bottle cork

    just drill a small hole thru the center, stick a small dowel thru the hole, chuck the dowel in an electric drill and run it up against a piece of sand paper until i liked the shape :D

    may have to get one/some of my wino friends to save me a sack full of corks ;)

    I didn't want to hijack a thread, but here's what @66drifter is talking about;

    He laid down the idea and I was at the bench already putzing around, so I tested his hypothesis;
    IMG_1309.JPG IMG_1311.JPG IMG_1315.JPG IMG_1316.JPG

    Now I need to make the cordage card!

    A thin, polished piece of stainless steel in place of the kydex card would also serve as a signal mirror in a pinch. And possibly even a ferro striker.

    Hmmm. . . more ideas churning. Off to the drawing board.
