I'd like to see whatever mods you've done to any and all knives for what ever reason . If you care to elaborate on the particulars that's fine as well . Thanks in advance .

Show yours. Start a discussion on something specific. Do a search on "knife mod" and start reading, the topic has been well covered.

Also, there are a few "social groups" that focus on specific knife brands like Mora or Opinel, or blade styles like Trackers. There are models and mods in thosw groups as well.

    Start here for social groups:

Some groups are more open than others

I thumbed through a few threads after doing the knife mod query . I posted my question vaguely on purpose . I was hoping to get more detailed info on the how and why . And basically just like seeing people's embellishments/talents. Me personally if I don't like a particular tool I don't try to make it fit me/my needs. I tend to pass it on. I'm cautious about purchasing knives for that very reason. I've handled enough of them to make a pretty good guess at what more than likely will meet my needs without even touching it .

I am pretty much the opposite. I mod anything, anywhere. For a knife example, the Green River Rippers make great little steak knives, but it's really hard to tell which end is up due to tang shape and thinness of blade. [IMG]

Now my wife doesn't fuss, at least about this...........

Okay, I’ll play. Here are some mildly modded Opinels. On the little No7 Inox I found the back corner of the “fish tail” was a hot spot so I round butted it, removed the logos, sanded the handle down and treated it with a few coats of boiled linseed oil. The big No12 Carbone needed more work. The nail nick was hard to get to and the handle felt a little too much like a baseball bat. I recontoured it to unshroud the nail nick, filed and shaved the flanks flatter to a nice oval profile, removed the logo, round butted it, stained and finished it with boiled linseed oil. Much better!

Not really a mod, but my Opi #8 got runned over by a damned old truck. I made a new handle out of canary wood.

The above knife was once a (found in trash pile) broken in half, large (perhaps 12-14") Old Hickory (Carbon steel) Butcher type knife.
The new funky/fancy wood handle and reconfigured Blade ( now 4.75") makes for a very SHARP (and I mean SHARP) functional/looking knife.
Knife mod was done by JKL Knives who (to the best of my knowledge no longer is accepting/doing mods). I am lucky to own TWO JKL modded knives
(my other being a 6" blade "UNIVERSAL Hammer Forge" Carbon knife).
