IMG_0240.JPG IMG_0241.JPG IMG_0242.JPG IMG_0243.JPG Years ago I had an experience in a wooded ravine during a thunder storm that made me think twice about preparedness.

I modified an Orion flare to a pack size as fire insurance if needed.

That won’t blow the fire all over the place? I have never set one off.

Fire prep is the key no matter the ignition source.

I carry a two pack of their mini flares for emergency. Never have actually used them other than igniting our slash piles. What is nice is that you have several minutes of an intense ignition source for when you need an fire instantly or have marginal materials.

Hopefully I never use them in a real life response but I keep a pair around for wet and winter.

used2 run w/ a group that kept a stock of ROAD FLAIRS for fire starting

knot recommended for cooking fires unless you have time to let it burn away prior to cooking

    justa comment...
