I wasn't sure where exactly to post this. I guess drawing and wood burning qualifies for other skills? Y'all can decide. Either way, my son and I had tons of fun this mother's day! Here's my story...

This mother's day my son and I wanted to do something different for mom. I had picked up a wood burner a little while ago and hadn't used it yet. My son loves to draw, so he came up with the idea to draw something and then we could wood burn it. I had some reclaimed wood in the garage, so it seemed like a solid plan. Then the brainstorming began...what to draw for mom? I wanted to do flowers and the kid wanted a sea turtle. So we decided to do both! I'm assuming it's like this in others' houses also, but we can't seem to keep anything a surprise. So mom found out about our plans (eavesdropping while we were at the kitchen table, I think). She was very excited, and thought we could do the same for the grandmothers! So the project grew from one to three. My son decided on the drawings for the grandmothers as well. He did a few drawings, but then something happened. He asked me to help him with his drawings. So we worked on them together and I remembered that I loved to draw when I was his age. I continued to draw until college but haven't really sat down with a pad and a pencil in a long time. It was a lot of fun! My son liked my drawings better and insisted we use them. Anyway, long story long, we had a lot of fun free hand drawing on reclaimed wood and then painting and wood burning for mother's day gifts.

The gifts for the grandmothers. These are their nicknames from the grandkids!

And we decided to do handprints on the back!

And for Mom's, I actually took progression photos for the first time!

And the finished product with the boys' handprints!

Those are pretty cool. Have you tried doing that with gunpowder?
