    Hello bush braws!
While buying some project materials on the ole Amazon.. and picked up another cheap knife to play with.. IMG_20180518_065248.jpg this dude was an add on item hitting the wallet for $4.04.
    Specs are...
    6" OAL
    3 3/8" blade
    Stupid short handle...
    Sharp guard...
This dude has a 440 stainless steel drop point blade..
    Sheath is ABS plastic..

First impressions.. very awkward in the hand.. the grind is uneven.. like 30/80 uneven.. and the edge is kinda sharp.. lol IMG_20180518_172913.jpg well it can make curls.. I tried notches.. tried..
I then for the greater good of the forum I decided to lay this lil dude to rest.. so I went straight for a maple sappling.. IMG_20180518_173304.jpg well I started beating.. IMG_20180518_173516.jpg and beat... IMG_20180518_173624.jpg Well frig.. I beat the doodoo outta this lil knife and it held up seemingly unharmed.. Next!
IMG_20180518_174253.jpg I cut some standing dead hickory.. then I couldn't find a good enough batoning stick.. so I used a rock.. IMG_20180518_174401.jpg it survived the first one..
IMG_20180518_175427.jpg umm.. and the 5th one..
Okay it's time to get my big whomping stick out... IMG_20180518_180059.jpg im at a loss for words y'all.. I beat the friggin knife feces out of this thing and all I got was a little wiggle in the guard... I guess it's time to play with the edge a little and beat it some more.. IMG_20180518_180225.jpg I did booger up the spine with the rock.. but that's not a big deal..
I gotta say this dude is pritty tough, I was having to really smack this joker with the rock just to get it to bite in the wood being the edge is not sharp and not hardly even. It held up tho.. pritty awesome. I'll go ahead and say even if it survives all this I'm still probably going to remove the handle and make it more user friendly.. this handle and guard are horrible in the hand hard to keep upright when batoning as well as horrible in everyway you can imagine.. but untill then I'm gonna see what this guy can handle. Keep y'all posted

Paint it orange and stencil BG on the side.

Nice of you to take the time to do that. See, you dont NEED super steels although they are nice. I wouldn't have guessed it was that small after looking at the pictures.

I decided to beat on this little blade more this morning.. IMG_20180520_120140.jpg this ole sweetgum sappling looked like a good test subject. IMG_20180520_120458.jpg tho the handle is still horrible in the hand.. this dude still gets it done. Now with an edge it made quick work of this tree. IMG_20180520_121453.jpg took my folding saw with me and cut up some tops I piled up last fall. I decided as well as trying to see what this little guy is made of. It's a good idea to use it to practice some of the skills I use the most. In this situation I'm gonna do split wood fire with 3X the prep. Just like in the bushclass lesson. I chose 7 pieces of oak. IMG_20180520_130624.jpg I used some leftover hardwood pieced to make my feather sticks. All was prepared with this little MTech
I had afew more logs laying around.. IMG_20180520_131922.jpg so I busted them too.. IMG_20180520_131950.jpg my batoning stick was sacrificed for the greater good of the forum...
This little knife still surprises me.. I beat it pritty good again and all I got is a lose guard.. and when I say lose.. like wiggles a little. No play in the handle, not bent.. if this handle was about 2" longer this would be a badass little knife. I have had a good time with this little knife, it's friggin tough as frig.. and I have had way more than $4 worth of fun with this dude. Not sure what I'll do with it next..
Would I use this over a Mora.. no.. but if it's all I had I could get some stuff done with it. I don't know if it's just this one.. I would dare say this would be a good knife to throw in a small PSK for $4.04 I have used it harder than one would normally use a knife this small and it just keeps on ticking.. I guess only time will tell.. IMG_20180520_133223.jpg Split wood with 3X the prep
    Complete..

If it had about 2" more handle it would be pretty mean!

    Wow.

    Just that. Wow.

Tiny blade, lots of work. That couldn't have been comfortable to use at all.

years ago, Cheaper Than Dirt produced some "Rough Use" knives that were made by MTech.

as I remember, they came in 3 blade shapes - Bowie, Bolo, and Spearpoint. they were big blades that had shoddy workmanship and worse sheaths but they were cheap and held up through some amazing abuse -- https://www.cheaperthandirt.com/pro...steel-blade-with-nylon-sheath-805319038801.do

on the old knifetests.com, Noss would test knives to destruction and came away really impressed with these -- https://www.alloutdoor.com/2014/07/08/knifetests-com-ctd-rough-destruction-test/

I bought two of the knives with the intention of removing the crappy plastic handle and redoing in Micarta but haven't gotten around to it yet. I have a couple axe heads to rehang first but your thread here may just have lit a fire under my behind to get on with it...
