I got this knife a couple months ago, and started playing with it. I have not been easy on it at all. It is holding up great, and I think its time to make it "mine"...
Here is what it looked like when I got it. It had one of the factory plastic sheaths that I didnt care for at all.

So, I sent it off the J. Williams for a new set of pants. He did an awesome job!

When I got it home, It looked way too "black" to me. I polished the cutting edges, and I liked it better.

But it was still a little too black for my tastes...Only one way to fix that...

Fast forward to today and the "thumb ramp" gave me a blister while carving a spoon. So Im working on smoothing it out some.

More pics to come after the (slight) re-profile, more sanding, and a final polish.

Saw the sheath photo on facebook, loving this project!! Might end up stripping some of my black blades down as well.

Cool knife! Is it Heavy? Really nice sheath. I am thinking of removing the coating on my new to me knife and polishing it. I really want to try some vine filework on the spine too, but not sure I have the guts for that yet.

Great looking knife and sheath, Josh. I really like the way the knife and firesteel are secured. Looks like it is set up for horizontal carry.

    Great job.

Looks great!. It is fun making things your own. Are you going to do a forced patina, or just let it age naturally?

It works for me, it takes some getting used to. Overall I really like it so far.

The "chopping" edge still has some serious 'shoulders'... I like it. I might thin the shoulders a little more in the future.

It's slightly on the larger side, but still fits in my pie-hole. I will show a pic eventually.

Finally I got the 'thumb ramp' filed off, and the spine polished to 800 grit. I spent another 3 hours polishing the blade last night, This bad boy is getting there!:50:

Only a little off-topic: Been wondering what Tom Brown has been up to. I've enjoyed some of his books and it looks like he still runs his survival/tracking school in New Jersey. But you don't seem to hear much about him anymore. I guess maybe he prefers to keep it on the down-low and let all the "survival" dudes on TV get the glory.

This actually burns. My resistance to this knife is so thin these days! I use to talk myself out of it by reading all the negative reviews on how it has to be modified to be any count. Problem is, the modding is what's starting to appeal to me so much! DANGITT!!!!

Modding is the path to the dark side. Wanting leads to buying. Buying leads to modding. Modding leads to more buying.

No epoxy, they are bolted down in 3 places, and you have to press out the lanyard-tube.

Its different. I use it more like a ulu, or sometimes more like a hatchet than like a standard knife. Its super tough, and it has a good heat treat. People have alot to say about them(good or bad), I just see them as a useful multi-position tool.
Find one used, and give it a month of use.
He did do a very nice job on the sheath.

I will keep updating this post with mods, and improvements.

I hope you keep it in your rotation until deer season. I'd like to see ya skin one out with it. I've done it with a WSK and that's where the front end really shines. Actually I completely butchered one. Made short work of bones.

    Awesome!

Josh, this thread got me to thinking about my old Tracker so I went and dug it out. The one mod that I think improves the usefulness of the knife, at least for me, is related to the handle. I removed the grooves, completely changes the feel and IMO improves chopping and handling over all.

I also removed the jimping, all my bush knives have a hard 90 filed surface there for use with a fire steel.

Seeing your new leather for it makes me want to break the old boy out again. It was my go to for the longest time, lot of memories in that one.

    Here's a couple shots:

I am about finished modding this blade. I am really happy how it is working, and I dont want to go too far.

I took off the rest of the thumb ramp...

Here is the "main edge" before I thinned out the "shoulders". The convex in this picture is about 1/4" wide...Now after thinning the shoulders and blending it all together the convex is over 5/8" wide.

I spent about an hour going really slow while I thinned out the edge....I would make a few light passes, then paint it back up with a marker. I was carefull not to touch the edge, or the factory plunge line.

After I was done with the thinning, I took it to the sandpaper, and sharpened it up to 1000 grit. It wont shave hair, but it will slice paper with ease.
I'm uploading a video now, and I will post it when it finishes.
