A view of my physical therapy aka keep walking to keep walking

Ray,Hermes and I started at my deer field
    26843.jpeg

He was so well behaved here, for a change, the leash was never pulled and I was able to get some nice pictures

Here is a nice deer trail going right to where my stand will be set up
    20190907_114713.jpg

And a nice little nap spot across the field from my spot(about 5o yards so too far to shot)
    20190907_114820.jpg

They mowed down the field but missed this lonely milkweed

    20190907_114910.jpg

    To be continued

Then Hermes took some time to smell the weeds
    20190907_114917.jpg

While I inspected some berries. I think they are Autumn olives
    20190907_115032.jpg

    20190907_115037.jpg

Then we jumped in the truck and headed to go get my park system deer permit as well as ask the ranger if he knew where we can access the WMA.

With some directions we were on our way to a new spot
The squirrels were barking, the frogs were hopping but we saw now deer tracks(very soft sand)
I did mark this spot out as a potential deer area
    20190907_131504.jpg
They say to hunt the edges so I walked up the hill, into the edge and found a nice tree that gives me this view of this field but it's closer to 50 yards so need to go back and look some more before putting a stand in
    20190907_131617.jpg

At this point I was done and headed back to the truck. All totalled between the 2 spots I put in 1.5 miles of mainly flat soft exploring.

50 yards is too far for a shot? Think you need to go to the range some more.... :D

You are exactly right @MommaJ , 50 yards is too far for a crossbow.

I have shot wild hogs at 43 yards and they still move a few inches before the bolt reaches them because of the speed of sound vs. the velocity of the bolt.

I try to keep my shots at deer 30 yards or less.

Looks like you got a few really nice spots picked out so far; good luck and happy hunting.

Ya know I was thinking you got deer and dear confused and had to think for a minute. Cause I know I'm not dear hunting but I might start cougar hunting to afford my deer hunting. But for cougar hunting you need to be at least 50 years behind them

A very productive walk. Hermes looks like he may have gained some weight?
I hope you get your tags filled this season!

He has put on a little weight or as the hubby says he's filled out a bit. Lol it's all those late night snacks that people sneak to him.

I will be thrilled to full my tags this season. The park system has changed their rules a bit including raising the permit price but if I tag 4 deer(tag out is 6 deer) then I get a $20discount next year. But the entire park is now earn a buck because their were too many registered hunters that were only hunting for trophy bucks. Which means their is now going to be a lot of pressure on the does.

Mismanagement of the resources at that level will complicate things and the deer population will suffer.
I don't deer hunt anymore (quit a long time back) but in GA there are more doe days now.

The deer population here is seriously out of control. The park system allows for management hunts but hunters have taken advantage of it for years by using the parks as a way to get trophy bucks. Now they are trying to turn the table.

My zone is 6 does and 1 buck per bow season and their are 3 seasons. The other zone I hunt is unlimited does for each of the seasons. Our seasons start Sept 14th and go until the middle of Feb

Nice outing. Thank you for sharing your walk with us.

Only a 6 day firearm season? That's short. Have to make sure all your ducks are in a row and and be out there everyday all day. Good luck this season. I can't wait for 10/1 to get out with the bow.

I call it the corn drag lol. Maybe after 2 weeks of this I will be able to drag a deer out.

You might want to add two more bags of corn to get in shape for a real deer drag out. ;)

Nah, that's too much work. I did carry my 1 person ladder stand out to my 2 hunting spots this year. Now that thing was awkward and heavy.

I'm getting excited for hunting season! Your sled reminds me of my wagon. Can you add wheels or would that make it too noisy?

I could add wheels since I bring it out normally after getting a deer but since I have until Oct 1st to hunt this area I'm using to help me bring out the corn.
