My wife and kids out voted me so we're heading to the beach instead of camping this year. Is there anything in the area for an out of place woodsman? Any good knife shops, gun shops, or flea markets? I've been cruising the net and have a couple ideas but I'm hoping to get some local insight. Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Thanks, I plan on taking a couple poles but I'm not rigged for saltwater. I figure anything will hit a spinner so I might try throwing some big bucktails.

I went to Myrtle once and didn't take any fishing gear and folks were catching croakers on shrimp like crazy from the surf. So I found a tackle shop and bought a cheap Zebco outfit, some hooks and piramid sinkers and some shrimp and caught a ton of them myself. Had a good fish fry at the motel room too !

You do not need a saltwater rod, a good bass rod will do just fine unless you are going deep sea fishing. joe

Huntington Beach State Park is just south of Myrtle Beach. It has an old brick mansion to explore, and alligators too. We camp there often. Lots of marsh boardwalks. The beach is a little coarser sand, And we used to find 20mm bullets from the ww2 era target practice the Navy conducted off shore. It's not as crowded as the Myrtle Beach SP. The only flea market I can think of is Hudson's in Surfside, lots of Chinese made stuff sold there, but its the place for souvenir shirts and hats.

    Have fun!
