I look forward to a fall solo canoe trip every October, but the weather looks pretty crappy in Adirondack Park.

Any good places still within a half day drive (probably south-ish) of Rochester, NY?

Can do two or three nights, prefer to set camp once, and any sort of fishing and solitude are a big bonus. Prefer not to carry / portage.

I'd suggest Kinzua Dam but the water level is low for the winter. I have done it in Oct. before and it's OK if you don't mind carrying your gear over 50-60 feet of rocks (and sometimes mud.)

What you're looking at is a daily forecast for Saranac Lake as of 6pm today, being Wednesday.

I see a 90% chance of 1/3 of an inch of rain Thursday night, followed by a beautiful Sat/Sun with clear skies and high pressure, followed by a 50% chance of 1/3 of an inch of rain Monday afternoon.

I'd be in a canoe in the 'Dacks this weekend, personally. It does not get better than this.

(Weather Underground... almost as good as Intellicast, but bought them out anyway.)

Sadly, this weekend is out. Gotta (wanna) watch my 3 yo granddaughter! Am keeping an eye on 12-13 oct, as forecast has improved. Looking for options in case it is rainy (hate rain).

Btw, I’ll share the secret place - it’s Little Tupper Lake. Big lake for sure, but easy to bail out and go north from the put-in to Round Lake (or is it Rock Pond?). Takes a lot of the stress off if windy. LTL itself is amazing, and totally worthy, if you like paddle-only lakes with no private residences that is. State maintained sites are first-come. Can portage to Rock Pond (or is it Round Lake?). Good bass fishing. I have been the ONLY person to sign register the past few years in mid to late Oct, so be sure to check in with the Ranger.

Too Bad you are tied up this weekend, hopefully you can make it next. A few of us from "other" forums are gathering at Cedar River Flow this weekend. If you find yourself available at the last minute, come on up.
Little Tupper is nice. Once when Seeker was battling the winds on Lows I changed my plans for a meet and decided to try LTL, I tucked into site 2 and had a great time, it was snowing on the way out.
Another time when Seeker and Beavertail battled the winds on LTL I tucked into the cove and stayed on the island with site 3, nice, sheltered from the wind and comfortable, we all made it to the far end of the lake the next day but the winds were howling all weekend.

Please forgive the shameless bump... ;-)

Anyone have recommended solo canoeing / camping / fishing spots in northern PA or northeast OH where the weather is looking somewhat more favorable for 12-13 October?

My usual places in the Adirondacks looks to be pretty cold and rainy. I’ll hold out hope that it improves for late October, but if I can do a new place earlier I’d love to try.

Agreed, this is almost fall canoeing perfection.

If I hadn't stupidly signed up to be a volunteer for a local kayak trip, I'd be up there right now... as it is, I will have to wait til the end of the month.

Boo-ya. Highly unlikely I’ll be anywhere near there there till next year at this point, so please, if you feel so inclined, snap a few pics and share them. Never get tired of seeing them.
