It is time to buy new tents for my scout troop. We need to buy 4 tents that are durable and under $50 ea.
Any suggestions? I have been contemplating the French military tents but can't seem to find the one with the bug nets on the doors. Another could be the Alps Mountaineering Meramac 2 which I could get for $40. The French tents seem longer lasting albeit perhaps not as luxurious (scouts don't need luxury just shelter) but plenty of space and I like the classic feel of them. We have tried to matainsometime sort of tie to traditional scouting.
    Any suggestions.

@whipcracker ... I have the French tent with the bug screen. You do have to watch condensation with them. But a great tent all around. No issue at all fitting two scouts in each.

$40 for the meramac 2 is a good price cant argue with that
french tents? are you referring to canvas pup tents?
scouts should be carrying their own tents, so would not recommend canvas for scouts,

Terasec, I was thinking the nylon ones. I agree the canvas could be problematic for scouts, well for some maybe. Thing is when I look at the various places to buy I can never tell which have the mesh doors.

If you buy for the Boy Scouts you can get great prices on Alps tents from Scouts Direct. That is where our troop purchased all of our tents. https://www.hikerdirect.com
