I think it is going to be a short show. Day 4, Tim, 55, broke his leg. Winter is setting in, and no one has a shelter more than a tarp. One guy chose not to bring a ferro rod, opted to use fire boards he makes there. Took him 2 days to get his first fire. Large Predators are everywhere compared to other shows.
    I wish them well!!

I pretty much couldn't believe what I was seeing. "No ferro stick? What did you trade for it, toilet paper?? Get off the shore, off of the rocks and start building!!" (I'm driving my wife nuts...)

I was wondering how he was going to fair without a ferro rod.

Is it back on Vancouver Island? No Ferro rod in a rainforest is a bold move.

But in a slightly dryer area I can easily see someone not brining one if they are skilled with friction.

I binged the first episodes tonight.

Lessons in how to pick the exact wrong gear, how to injure yourself while doing mundane tasks, and how to give long drawn out diatribes about what you’d like to do/have/find.

    Highlights.....

How to leave your gear in the chopper.

“Token female participant” cuts her hand. Deja vu ???? ....for sure.

Didn't we see someone fall and have to leave in the first episode last season ???

I am specially liked “token military guy” giving a commentary on not being able to catch fish .... while not even fishing.

How to jump from a regular diet to a survival diet and ruin your digestive tract.

And plenty of complaining about their situation.

Not much in the way of informing or teaching about what skills they are using.

I stopped watching after season 3, but all of this sounds very familiar.

I have met a few contestants and they all have issues with what made it past the edit room's floor. I am sure they could re-edit every season and have a wonderful show based on skills, experiments, and successes. But what we get is a show about people complaining and getting hurt.

I love the concept of the show, but the editting is some of the worst forced narratives I have seen on TV.

    Cut my hand off.

    Burn down my shelter.

Stab my leg with an arrow.

Miss a shot at a moose. (not a tiny mouse... a big ol MOOSE)

And speaking of mice... who decided that mouse was a staple food for more than felines, canines, and people who desire the hunta virus ???

And still not a single shelter that if fit for more than a weekend trip.

Alone has traded video and camera skills for outdoor/Bushcraft/Survival skills in this series.

Alan and Sam were lucky to get in on this before the downhill slide.

I really only watched those two seasons... problem is the money managers get involved with a successful show and end up picking the contestants. Believe me when I say that they pick the personalities and not the ones with skills. Their first priority is to make a TV show... picking people who can do the work (not just the right faces/voices) is a far, far second.

I had really high hopes for this show.
    But they ruined it.

Started in first season with the “illusion” (lies) about the contestants being in remote wilderness, and finishes with it becoming just video blogs by people seeing who can starve to death the slowest.

I am at a loss for the lack of skills shown by some of them. No bow? No ferro stick? Didn't know tamarack and plastic tarps were flammable? The accidents with stabby things, and falling really surprised me. And then they make trad bow shots of small game in the tops of trees. And recover the arrow. Complete paradox.

I thought the attempt at a reindeer fence was innovative, and showed some real insight. Then what appeared to be 100yard straight away shot on the moose was a head scratcher.

Is this the Downer Alone thread? this is cracking up to be the best season yet. sure some stupid things are happening be it bad luck or chance or staged for a little extra cash. But big game is on the menu finally! And four rabbits and a muskrat, that hasent' happened in all the seasons yet, and Big fish too.
