We will most likely be taking 95 down and back. Sadly we will be traveling in a small pickup.

It's all good. I won't have the time off anyway. Started a new job this week and weekends are no longer mine.

You mean Cheyenne Dog solders. Somewhere on my Mother’s side there is Blackfoot; but in such small amounts I seldom if ever mention it.

Don’t worry, we have had a lot of strange foods over the years at meets, but a dog feast has not made the menu…yet. Allan’s chicken cooked in mud (an Asian market chicken complete with feet and head) was pretty interesting as was some 1700’s era salted pork, parched corn and hard tack.

    Meals/food so far:

Moe is making a wild boar ham with roasted potatoes.

I’ll be making up a dish of apples, onions, cabbage, bacon and kielbasa Polish sausage that eats well by itself or as a side to Moe’s ham. We all need to haunt @Sgt. Mac our Polish moderator into attending this meet.

Homemade Scrapple, I hear rumors, will be making an appearance too :D

If anyone is interested I could try to bring some bullet casting tools and do a talk on casting?
I figure there are some guys in the group that could put the info to good use.

That would be very interesting, casting for muzzle loaders or modern casing rounds?

I'm set up for both. A couple friends and I actually host a bullet casting seminar every fall. Help teach Reloaders how to make bullets for almost free. It's a great skill to have.

I am most likely coming. If there is any interest I can bring quahogs, 0r venison stew provided I can take up a little fire space with a dutch oven.

For all the rain we've had this spring I was surprised to see the fire alert level sign at the forest this weekend at "extreme" I hope they don't issue an open fire ban.

That would be most unfortunate. No sense worrying. Alternative planning is more effective.

With that open fire ban in place, are you allowed to use a barbecue or grill?

If so, we can fashion some out of 50gal drums and skirt the fire regs.

I’ve never know them to post an outright ban in the camp area so I assume we will have no problem. Worse comes to worst we’ll cook on Coleman stoves.

I've built stick fires in drum tops in Massasoit SF, during ban before, it was considered a "barbecue", despite sitting on the ground.

I don't know if that flout-law might still be applicable, but just a thought. If we could pull that off, fire skills could still be practiced openly. (In the unlikely event of an outright ban)

Where I host two or three meets here a year, I certainly do not want to risk being asked not to return, or get fined, or arrested or who knows what. I have to live in the town and would not want to be known as “That Guy” who started the fire that burnt down the forest or surrounding houses. If they say no fires, that means no fires; I’m not going to play lawyer ball with them.

They have never stopped us from using the fire rings etc, I don't think we will have any issues. Everything will be greener in a couple of weeks too, so that should lessen the fire risks.

It's all good, I wasn't trying to cause any trouble. I was just relating that we were permitted "within proper containment" to have a natural material or wood fire in another MA state forest.

I apologize for my poorly picked puns, upon further review; using "flout-law" was not the best choice of words.

Edit; as a former firefighter, wildland operations certified I would not risk anyone's health or safety over any fire, any size.

The main entrance on Slab Bridge Road is the one to use. There is a large parking lot right there, we stake out the campsites to the east side of the lot.

The meet is 12 days away, weathermen cannot tell what it is going to do today let alone over a week away.
There is a roofed over area on the other side of the lot we can use if the worst come to be.

    Courses

    @werewolf won, @SwampYankee64, & @Medic17

The LandNav, Flyfishing, FirstAid, Knot, & FireCraft courses sound great!

These are the things I have to practice. I'm familiar with the theories, yet haven't put them into practice much.

Watched some wilderness firstaid videos, without any actual practice. Did some basic LandNav in White Mountains last year. Not much FireCraft. I've mostly used prusik & taught-line hitches. Recently looked into trapping, field dressing, & cooking small game. Before that I studied theories of survival fishing. Even though I'm a vegetarian, it would be best to at least know how this is done, just in case.

    Looking forward to it.:1:
