My project manager rolled by my jobsite today carrying a whole bunch of these he picked up from the SOG factory store for $10 a piece. These are regularly $40 or so so that's quite a deal. He paid for these with his own money so it still cost me $10, but 75% off is quite the deal.

It isn't too bad a knife, definitely rough around the edges, but it will be a hard use work knife.

First thing this needs is a good sharpening, doesn't pop hair at all, though that isn't surprising.

Secondly, there is a horrible design flaw in the scales. They decided to make a small divot where the thumb stud seats instead of just completely grinding the handle flush with the rest to accommodate the stud. That I will grind out and smooth.

Third, the scales are super square around the edges. Not comfy at all. These will be rounded off and chambered because they bug me.

Thanks for looking. Hopefully I can get to work on this tomorrow.

That's a decent 10 buck knife. Woulda been disappointed by the lack of fit and finish at full price.

Gotta be honest, I'm still a bit disappointed as this was made by a once great American company. This right here is a darn good example of why I try to buy American and not Chinese where I can. Better quality for a slightly higher price (most often). But for the deal on a trade specific took (electrician) I couldn't pass it up. Also the rest of the knife is nice, good lockup, no wiggle, and a solid spring mean a hopefully long service life stripping wire and getting the job done. I'm excited to make it right and put it to work.

Also, if someone wants one of these I can swing by and pick a few up on my way home from work. They are part of the monthly deals they run and at 10 bucks a pop (plus tax and shipping) I would be happy to help others out on a deal. Just let me know!

That's cool! I like the looks of those hawksbill knives. I totally agree on bemoaning the former quality of many of the brands. I have seen some surprisingly good tools from Asia, but those seem to be few and far between. Should be a good user. I'm sure you will make is much nicer.

I like the hawksbill too, though they are interesting to sharpen, requiring a round diamond and ceramic rod set. That's not too hard to get though, but being a work knife I will need two sets of sharpeners, one for home and one for my tool box lol
