Just Got a Pelican 15.5 Canoe...My Dog won't fit on the kayak anymore. I have also been (for years mind) watching to much Ray Mears and will be taking it on a overnight 30 to 40 miles journey down the Delaware River staying over at an abandoned Island called Treasure Island, which was a boy scout camp. Then on for another 20 miles... I will take any and all advice...Thanks...

I have the same canoe. It is not as stable as I would like, but it will get the job done. I have never had it loaded down with gear, have just used it for fishing on ponds and short 1 day river floats. It is OK for this use. To tell you the truth, I have been wanting to upgrade for a while but circumstances haven't allowed it. I would take it out for a test run before you shove off on a longer float.

Well done! Y'know, I have heard it said time spent in a canoe does not count against the allotted time a man has on Earth. ++C++

Nice deal. It don't look like you can thought it on your back.. could be wrong, but if you can't balance it on your shoulders for poraging, you can buy or make a 2 weel cart. I'm not sure if you well have to in that area but is not a bad idea to look at it before you need to.

    To paraphrase solocanoe,
"paddle it like ya stole it"

I have a friend who uses one of those.
He has been very happy with it.
I have taken it out solo and fished
out of it, just to try it out. I put my cooler right
behind the front seat and it rode well in the water.

I know he really loads it down on our three day trips in the back
waters of lake monore. And he is a big boy too.
(about 6' 6" and looks like he could hunt bear with a switch:4:)

You can get your monies worth out of that in one season
if you give it a good try. (they will all be free rides after that)
That canoe will give you many miles and many smiles.

Good looking canoe and a good deal, I read where a fellow once said that a paddling in the worst canoe was still a great pleasure or words to that effect and I agree,

Those are good canoes for the money. To me boats are like DVD players or TV's. Either buy the $29.99 one or the $1000.00 one. Cause the ones in the middle just ain't friggin worth it.

Before you take an overnight though make a test run with the gear you think you will need and etc. YOU want to make sure it handles well and you KNOW how to pack it. Packing a canoe right can be an art form. And if you don't do it right you will at best get wet. At worst it's very dangerous. Very...

Great deal on a canoe, hoss. Those ones are tanks, too. You'll not have to worry about them breaking up on the rocks, that's for sure.

First thing I would do is take it for a spin with you and your dog. You have paddling experience, but not in this canoe and that makes all the difference in the world. I'd seriously think about removing the center seat and installing a traditional one with a yoke front, or a traditional yoke, if you see portaging in your future. Or, you can build/buy a cart, but those take up room aboard so you have to weigh the pros and cons. No matter how you go, though, you've got the first step covered and I'm sure you're in for a whole lot of fun.

    I love canoeing.
