Jake will be ten on October 8th. We have been camping on his birthday since he was 5. We have been going to Gosstoberfest the past few years but this could be fun.

These are individual sites, that are down the road from the group sites. Not that people can't do that, but it seems the tradition is to reserve a group site and then everyone overnights in that area. But, then again, as I mentioned there really aren't any good hammock spots, so maybe people might choose to do the overnight in an individual site. I do think there is room and time to look at other sites as well, to find a spot which better fits everyones needs.

Confirmed! Women and children are welcome, but keep in mind that we'll be hiking a distance of about 2 to 3 miles round trip via the Hawk Mountain Lookout Trail.

    Hey all,
This had gone a bit quiet.. Has anyone (@J2kamaybe?) scouted any group sites in Del Rec Area? As I mentioned, I'm certainly open to other spots if they look more promising than what I found at Worthington.

I'm also happy to do a repeat at Stokes, since it looks like this group event will wind up in the fall like it was last year... Hopefully by then NJ will be all rained out, as Stokes last year was wet..

Hi all.. Giving this a BUMP to keep things moving forward. I would be happy to make reservations for the group but I want to be sure we have consensus, and we need to probably reserve soon to get the spot of our choice.

What do you all think? Anyone have strong preferences regarding location? I liked Worthington, but given the lack of hammock spots, that may not be the best place.. I'd also be happy going back to Stokes. Stokes had a very nice balance of resources - facilities, wood, hammock spots... If Jenny Jump was more central to more people we can do that too..

If someone wants to report on a scouting trip elsewhere in NJ (High Point maybe? or somewhere close over the border PA?), post in THIS THREAD: NWNJ Group Overnight Ideas, so that we will have a central location for ideas now AND going forward, and keep this thread specific to planning the fall outing.

September 15-17, or October 6-8 seem to be the favored TIMES, but if you haven't already taken the poll please do so.

So, give me a shout out about what you'd like to do for the fall!

Hi Bob - That's my thinking too - I think Stokes might be the better option given our needs/wants as a group. Hoping a few more will chime in and say Yes to Stokes.

October 6-8 appears the best weekend for all. I think we were at Group Site H last year, right?

New member, but I met @Pastor Chris and some others at Jenny Jump in May. My 8 year old son and I stopped by during the day. Would love to join you. Prefer to hang if we can. Stokes sounds great.

Hiya OzNic! Glad to have you aboard! Sadly I missed Jenny Jump, but having hiked there many times I'm sure it was great! We did Stokes last fall and it was good despite worsening weather through the weekend..

Ok.. looked in detail at the only site available, which is I (NOT H which we had last year). Here is the description:

Group Site I is located in the Haskins Group Camping Area. This site is an open grassy field with trees in the back, that contain different size picnic tables, fire rings and elevated charcoal grills. Group Site I is next to the restrooms and shower facilities.

Based on that description, should I go ahead and reserve? I don't know how "trees in the back" translates to hammock spots...?
    • Min Num of People: 7
    • Max Num of People: 45
    • Max Num of Vehicles: 15
    • Cost: $90 per night
    • Available Oct. 6-8
    https://www.reserveamerica.com/camp...s.do?contractCode=NJ&siteId=735&parkId=670034

By comparison, here is Group H description:

Group Site H is located in the Haskins Group Camping Area. This site is in a forested area that contains a long picnic table, a fire ring and an elevated charcoal grill. Group Site H is a short walk to the restrooms and shower facilities.

    • Min Num of People: 7
    • Max Num of People: 10
    • Max Num of Vehicles: 4
    • Cost $20 per night
    • NOT available Oct. 6-8.. currently AVAILABLE Oct. 13-15
    https://www.reserveamerica.com/camp...de=NJ&siteId=734&parkId=670034&findavail=next

Would we be better off going Oct. 13-15 and using Group Site H, which we already know we like?

Sorry my friend. In looking at the sites, I decided that really the best option was Site H, so I went for the first weekend that was available. Of course, feel free to start up your own event thread :) I'm sure those closer to you might love to have another gathering down thatta way.. and I'd be happy to do more than one in the fall!! :)

This year is crazy. Both daughters bought houses and are moving in this month. Also seems most of my fall is booked already. At least I still have four weeks vacation to use. Maybe some mid week camping trips.

Hey - I can't promise nothing, but I'm moving up to east PA a week from Friday. If everything with housing and work has stabilized by then, I'd love to come, it's only about 2.5 hrs away.

I am going to try and make it. Between so soccer season and bow hunting season it will be tough but this is only an hour from me so chances are good.

    Sounds good @Sharpdogs.
It looks like I'll be meeting some new bushcraft friends for this weekend :)

Jake and I are still on the fence between this and Gosstoberfest. It is his birthday that weekend and we have done Gosstoberfest the past two years. This will be the fifth year of camping on his birthday!

Hiya @Pastor Chris I'm glad you checked in. As much as I'd love to see you and Jake there - after all - you were one of the first to make me feel at home with my bushcraft buddies - I would totally go for Gosstoberfest - I'm sure it's a neat formal event with some great activities you two will enjoy, plus it's tradition!!

Just make sure you post on the community here all about your trip, and we'll do the same :)

Hi there Trailjack! Nice to meet ya, and I'll definitely let you know. Is your real name Jack? My husband Ted and I will be there, and BobC - great guy, old boy scout leader for many eons, will definitely be there as well.

There is room for 10 spots at this site, and we've got plenty of room so far. I'll post you on the list as "maybe" for now. Let me know when you know for sure, since it may get busier as we get closer.
