Jake and I have been yearning for another meet up and I am off at the end of April. So we are gauging interesting in a group meet.

Tohickon Valley Park in Bucks County Pa: http://www.buckscounty.org/government/ParksandRecreation/Parks/Tohickon

A few updates if you have not followed all the way through the thread:

-We will be in group campsite #1, circled on the map in orange.
It is a huge area and much of it is open lawn, so there is lots fo room for multiple sleep system sets; hammocks, tents, tarps. It will be a good time to play around with such things and have "bail out" options ready to go.

    - there are only a few parking spaces near the camp, but you can drop off you gear and then park in the parking lot, circled in purple, and then walk across the field to the camp site.

    - There is a water source at the trail head, marked in blue

    maptohickonvalleypark.jpg

Tohickon has bathrooms and water adjacent to the smaller group site #2, trees for hanging, lots to do and see in the area, and a nice creek nearby. For the cost of the campsite it would be about $10 per person, cheaper is a PA resident reserves it.

    RSVP here

I'd love to come up, the NY camp doesn't seem too far from me. Flyfishing in the brook and pond would be nice, maybe even a gobbler to pass around the campfire since it would be the start of spring turkey here and there.

FYI I think we are tending towards Tohickon Valley. It will be much more comfortable for some folks.

I am not sure how much firewood will be available on the ground, and they do not sell firewood there, so perhaps folks can being some so we are sure to have enough.

For the place we are thinking about do we each need to make a reservation or are we going to get a group site?

I’ll reserve the site and pay and then we can figure out each persons share. Probably about $10 each.

You mentioned that it would be cheaper if a PA resident reserved the site. Is that correct? If so, maybe on of the PA folks could reserve it.

I'd like to come but with my situation, I can't commit yet.

Yes, that is the case. It is $4/person/day for non-residents and $2.5/day/person for residents

I was thinking of booking it for 10 people (which is the minimum) for each night, which would be $80, or $50 for a resident

If a PA resident is coming and could like to book this for us, group campsite #2, that would be great!

If I were in PA I'd jump at the chance to save us all a bit of $$. Of course, I'm a Jerseyan, so can't help there :(

Great. 15 miles up the road from me. I camped there a long time ago when my daughter was in Indian Princesses. The trail into the gorge is interesting. It's also next to the Delaware River Canal path trail. And trout season is open in PA by that time. They used to stock the stream. Not sure now. It get's too warm for wild trout much of the summer.

I don't think I'll bring all the dutch oven stuff but may bring a portable ham radio rig.

I haven't been out since Labor Day suffering some medical issues for the past 6 months. But that seems under control now. Have to keep the salt intake low so no bacon. :( But steak is ok. :)

Edit: Looks like they are scheduled to stock that section on 4/25 if you have a PA license.

That is always fun, I have been riding and playing with mine on the days above 45Deg! I will be with Jake though and that is too much gear to pack on the bike.

I would probably be arrive there at about 11 or so, if you are interested I will send you a text when I leave!

I’ll keep and eye on this. I am supposed to be paddling two nights on the bog river/lows lake in the dacks that weekend. With this spring weather though, who knows. Water may not be open and plans may need amending.

I guess I am a little late in response here, I am a PA resident too, but live and work in NYC, so I can also reserve it if necessary. As this will be the first time I meet you guys, I am looking forward to it, schedule permitting.

Folks, I am in Hoboken, but currently without a vehicle. That being said, I can hop on NJ Transit, and take a train out west and meet someone at a station if that works. Or maybe just rent a car.

I am in the same situation as you. I can get off work and hop on a train from Penn Station, otherwise I would look into renting a car.

I felt well enough to drive out today to check out the sites, and I'm glad I did. Group site #1 seems quite a bit better for our purposes; a bit higher, flatter, and drier than site #2, and a better proximity to trees for hammocks. I have asked @Chris keating to reserve that site on our behalf for the meet.

Here is a short video of the site:
