Ok, so we can have a better turnout than last year I'm posting this early for people to schedule time off or other plans around this. It is April 5-8. And if you know someone/people that would like to learn more or see what bushcrafting is about then bring them along (cause as they say the more the merrier). Hope to see you all there. I'll tag 10 people since it only allows that many, but feel free to tag other people that I haven't. Thanks and have a good one.

Black5 - 1 - I'm going to make the attempt again, depending upon granddaughter#4 arrival date.
    Bobsdock - 1 - I'm in !
Broke - 5 - I will be there, with my sons and hopefully my nephew again.
    Chad Rogers - 1
GBPackKC - 3 - Mr. C and I would love to hang out again. Checking with a buddy to see if he wants to come as well.
    Justin_Cloer - 4 - Myself and 3 boys
    Mikus72 - 1
Scout2019 - 1 - New to Group but this event is why I joined - probably myself only first time.
    Spirit-Wolf - 1 - Will be there early again
Terrapin - 4 - myself, son, daughter and nephew
UncleCarm - 1 - I will be there if at all possible.

    Total: 23

It is basically car camping with a lot of socializing. It is not a hike-in although there is 22 miles of trails around. Fishing on the lake and in the channel/creek/stream whatever you want to call it. Lots of good food and company and plenty of things to learn or teach, if you feel so inclined. The camping is free ,but the sites are a bit overgrown. Not all of them, just a few. Have a look at the video I posted to see for yourself. I generally show up Thurs. afternoon, get set up and crash for a while, as I have an 11 hour drive from Wisconsin. There are toilets up by the day use area that are roughly a mile or so away by vehicle. People usually bring water, but there is a place where you can get clean water to boil. A few of the locals told me last year that they drink the water straight from the spring, but I boiled it just to be sure. We usually all start heading out on Sunday or Monday. I hope this helps and look forward to seeing you there. If the parachute shows up this time, we will have a group gathering area also under the parachute. It's a great time.

I have been having -20F with windchills of -45F. Been stuck in the house, getting antsy for a saunter in the woods. This thing is 2 months away, I'm ready now. Maybe I'll get to stay another day again due to a blizzard. One can only hope...

For those who haven't been there yet we meet in the area where the pin is. When you turn off the hwy stay straight till you get to the damn. Turn left at the bottom of the hill right next to the damn and follow the road all the way back to the circle. Can't wait to see you all there and hopefully see some new faces.

One last thing I forgot to mention for the new guys coming, we bring our used or unwanted bushcraft things that we don't want or need and give them to others. Last year we gave them out, and the year before we put everything together drew numbers and when your number came up you got to pick something. If you dont have anything to give or just don't want to get rid of anything that's fine it's not mandatory. Just something to help others, pay it forward so someone else can utilize it, or make room for new gear.

@beestokk we have been having them down there for the last few years in the spring. We'll have another meeting next spring and hopefully if you can't make this one then the next one. Oh and @Broke and @GBPackKC both are from the KC area.

I will have a new set-up for this year. A lot larger than the previous years. Hopefully complete with a shower room too. It all depends on how many hours I get at work, weather I can afford it all. Haven't been working due to sinus infection and now chronic bronchitis. That shit really takes a toll on the old body, and the doctor visits take a toll on the wallet! Not to mention the pills...Hopefully Monday I'll be back to work.

Ok guys and gals, I am putting together a few little "challenge courses" for people to partake in. What I would like to know before I spend all my time designing them is, would anyone be interested?
"What are you talking about?" Well, You have a starting point and travel to numerous other points via directions from the current point,(Start to "A", at "A" you get directions to "B" and so on.) this will be through the woods and will incorporate use of self-mapping, compass nav, traveling on a bearing, field tracking, establishing a pace count, estimating time and distance, creating shelter, fire, boiling water, plus whatever else I decide to throw in...
I want to have a few easier courses and 2 harder ones,("Hard" & "Extreme"). For the easier courses, this could be something an adult and child do together, or just a beginner/learner. As for the 2 hard ones, they will be designed for 1-2 people to do together but, a group could also do them (you would have to split up the prizes though). As far as prizes go, I'm not 100% sure on what they will be yet but, I assure you they will be worth your time.
These challenges are not meant to be about the prizes, they are meant to simulate a real world situation one might find themselves in while out hunting, fishing, hiking, or just out in an unfamiliar woods scouting, and to give one the confidence to get through the ordeal safely.
    So, what say you?

Just to remind people that decide to do the challenge, there is no cell service down there so using the compass on your phone won't work. So if you want to participate in this make sure you have a good compass.

@Spirit-Wolf I was pondering proposing some sort of primitive fire challenge, but sounds like you are taking it to the next level. I like the idea. I have a compass for me and Mr C.

@Chad Rogers you are not alone. I am a bit pumped. Also I am mentoring a wilderness survival merit badge currently with plans to do the final Campout the week after we are at BCUSA. We have property that will allow us to build debris huts as part of their red cedar eradication program.

Mr. C and I’ll be there Friday early but leave on Sunday.

    Thx

Ok, only 4.5 weeks to go. I have the learners course all drawn up along with the "Hard" and the "Extreme". I have most of the give away items to go along with the courses. AND, I'm looking forward to warmer weather, as it's a cool 8 deg. here. I heard there was a bit of snow there, is all ok? Hoping to see some new faces this year and talking with the regulars. (Notice how I said regulars and not normal. Because we all know we are anything but normal!!)
P.S. I will be making up a dozen sets of pace beads too so, if you need a set let me know. The plan is to give them to the contestants.

Maybe a inch or two of snow, nothing much. I will be taking a trip over there within the next couple of weeks, will post if I see any problems.

Mr. C and I will for sure be on the Rookie list. Neither of us have not have used pacing beads. I have watched the concept, but never tried. Thanks so much for putting all the effort in.

I am pumped to see what you have up your sleeve.

    See you all soon.
