We as woodsmen are more than likely an honest lot. I went to the famous Wal Mart Tuesday A.M. to do some grocery shopping. Driving a 12' flatbed doesn't lend one to the close parking spaces. I had a full 5 Gal. gas can on the truck. When I came out I noticed it had slid back some, no problem. I started to move it back to the front and noticed it was empty. Someone had emptied it into their tank. Brought a big smile to my face. It was filled with diesel for my tractor!!. I'm still chuckling as I write this just picturing them a mile down the road. Hope you all have a good day . joe

Well pulled the old switcheroo on our tank labels at the farm when that started happening. It's even better when you can pull up to the vehicle a mile down the road and ask if they need help.

    That's great!

I was having some work done (cement poured) and had taken off for a few hours. When I came back the cement guys' power trowel was sputtering and smoking and the foreman looked up and said, "You had diesel in that gas can, didn't you?"

    That's what they get.

    That is brilliant!
I am curious: Is it ok to put diesel in a gas can but not gas in a diesel can? I think gas needs to vent so maybe the yellow plastic container would not work.

Reminds me of my wife's problems putting gas in the lawn tractor. Few years ago I was away on a business trip and I get a call from her about problems with the tractor. She says it's sputtering and smoking and back firing. I ask a few more questions and then ask if she gassed it up. Yes, she says, from the big blue fuel can. I said "oh, you mean the one that says kerosene?". So when I get home I flush out the fuel lines, put on a new filter, and give it a good run. Then instruct the wife to only use the red cans to fill the tractor.

So about a year later I'm on another trip and I get a similar call. I ask if the can was red. Yes, she says. It was the one labeled two cycle marine gas. I asked when was the last time I took the tractor out on the lake?

They probably sniff too many things already.
I might start carrying a gas can full of water just to see what happens.

Of course there is the possibility they had a diesel burner. Not likely since it was in a gas can, but just saying.

But it's a cool story if it was a gas burner

Seems to me you may get a summons and have to pay for a new motor and 'pain and frustration'.

BTW, I sent the first post to my dad and he thought it was great. He has a five gallon on 2 cycle on his truck in a red can.

Diesel won’t ruin a gas engine...it will be a costly repair to fix all the injectors, fuel pump, filter, drain/clean the tank, new plugs.

Yeah I know, but the person that poured it into their tank likely doesn't, they just know it won't run no matter what they try.

I know, that's the best part IMO.

My dad was tired one night after work and put $50 of regular in his diesel Dodge 3500 before he realized. Had to tow it home. Luckily he didn't start it.

That woulda blowed that poor diesel up. Glad he didn’t start it.
I ran kerosene and fuel oil through mine from time to time. Never more than a 10:1 mix.
I saw a guy wheel into a service station in his mini van one day, turn down the guy at the pump, swipe his card and proceed to fill his grocery go-getter with a full tank of diesel. My step-dad and I saw them sitting on the side of the road less than a half mile from the station.

I'm certain they can find some lawyer that will hunt you down and make you pay for all damages...including lawyer's fees. I'm also fairly certain that the camera's in the parking lot will capture your vehicle description and tag number.

After all, the poor victim of such a negligent act was just trying to get to the bank to withdraw the funds to reimburse you for your borrowed property.

Reminds me of people who sue home owners(and win)when injured while committing a burglary!!

    Lawyer up buddy!!:p:p:D:D:cool:
