So I have never been here before this is unexplored terriotory for me. Ill pack a cooler, Tell me what beer you all want if any, and what you would like to eat, I’m going to keep it kinda light this time just in case there is a lot of hiking involved.

Ill bring the kitchen sink, but it may end up sitting in the car lol.

Never been there before and have never cold weather camped before either. I might be able to make it, if you guys don't mind showing a cold weather newbie the ropes... How far would we be walking in? Will we be close to our vehicles or no?

I would bring my pack of course, with that I have my tent (Alps Mountaineering Lynx 1), that is a 3 season but it can be pushed to 4. My sleeping bag would be the Mountain Hardwear Flame (20 degrees). Anything else I would need in terms of cold weather?

I could use my hammock but I do not have an under quilt as of right now so that might not work.

If I can go, I will be bringing and drinking Busch Light... (I'm on a diet lmao)

20 degree bag likely will be fine. I recently bought a fleece bag liner. It helps add probably 5-10 degrees. I also recommend a pad to insulate you underneath. A tarp (or tent) to keep moisture from settling on you and to block the wind. I use a all of that in a hammock and have slept in as low as 25 degrees and stayed warm. If I had an underquilt, I’d be good down to 0 degrees easily.

One thing I do with my sleeping bag and hammock, is I will fix’s it and pull my hammock through the center of the sleeping bag then when I lay down I pull my bag over me so I’m surrounded by the sleeping bag. I have pretty big sleeping bag you might not be able to do that.

I have been watching the weather forecast up till the tenth is 20% rain with night temp between the 40 and 50’s.

IM going to keep a close eye on the weather there is no reason for us to be miserable;e in freezing rain. Cold weather camping is fun but cold weather in rain together kinda kills it.

Is everybody good with that or do we go no matter what ?

As for the questions about the vehicles or the hike I have not been there before either so this is all unexplored territory.

As long as we don’t have a high chance of rain all day long, I’ll plan on going. A small chance of temporary rain would be fine to me.

I can agree with that, what about bringing the canoe, is cold weather fishing any good? My goal is to go in on Friday afternoon and find us a good spot. From the topographical map on the webpage it looks pretty hilly around that area. MY plan is to find a good site for hammocks and tents and realitivaly close to the lake. I was told this area can be bad for ticks, I would think as the tempature has dropped that wouldn’t be a problem but you should plan on brining spray and maybe spraying your clothing down before getting there.

I read through that pretty interesting read. I dont like to use a tent. Dont ask why it is to long of a story to tell in a text but I have slept out in 20 degree weather while it was snowing in a hammock with a pretty wet 0 degree sleeping bag. It was not a great night but. I survived .

Looking forward to the campout. If you pick a spot beforehand, I might drive out Friday—just depends on what my workload looks like that week.

Let’s get a roll call going. I can pick up enough food for Saturday lunch/dinner. Let me know if you have any food preferences.

For those who have never been to timber ridge, I highly recommend a yak/canoe/jonboat. (Even bass boats can be put in but only electric motors permitted).
Best spots are on the back of the lake. It is quite literally a lake in the woods. No camping permitted on the dam. There is a couple private lots on the right near the ramp...other than that camp can be set up anywhere. I'd suggest lake side as bow season, as y'all know is in.
I'm off that weekend, I don't have a lot of cold weather gear...but I'm sure I could manage a night.

I can do better :) I had some friends come I. From Iowa a few months ago, and made a "tour" video for them so they would know it was a very primitive camping trip. My profile pic is from there aswell. Below is the link to vid I made for them.

I work this weekend, I'll ask if I can get off Sunday but it'll be tough on short notice.
Be sure to preload gps if you use google maps, there is next to no service out there.

There is an old trail that goes around the lake, it is not maintained tho. You will see a gate when you get to the parking area. Just cross the gate and follow the road. You will get to a place where the road goes down the hill to the left, it goes to one of the private lots (everything to that point is private) you'll see what looks like an old log road going to the right up hill and it'll lead ya around the lake. You'll walk through a couple private lots that look like the owners haven't been to in years but eventually the path leads around the lake. The bulk of the public land is on the rear side of the lake on the right fork, I've not explored much of it tho, I tend to stay near the water although if you make it far enough there is a nice rock overhang just off the path as you make the decline down the hill back there, great place for a rest and a quick meal.
I asked dispatch if I could get Sunday off ..he said he had two other pilots off but would let me know if anything changed.

I've never hiked the left side of the lake but the old access road went all the way around back before the government bought the place.

If we hike to the Orange dot rough estimate about a half a mile. Be hard to bring the kitchen sink. But bourbon a few MRE's Dont need a cooler in this weather. Boat or no boat this is going to be fun.

I’m going to post some pictures later i just got back from the lake, noway we are hiking in. Right of the boat ramp is private property and no capsize on that side. And to the left across dam is a very steep incline just to get up to the top the hill to to walk across. I would not want to try it with a pack not safe and pretty muddy.
I can get 3 in my canoe. With reasonable amount of gear. But noting saying we cant make 2 trips.

I would really like to come down on Friday I can be there around noon. If someone will meet me there. Then we can run a pickup run on Saturday morning for anyone else who is coming. Hlydon Can you make it Friday? If not I would like to meet at 9am on Saturday at the boat dock.

I know Hlydon and loneweb is coming anyone else?

Bummer on the hike in. Although paddling in is fine, I was hoping to stretch my legs a bit.

@LoneWeb is there an easy take out spot near the orange dot or the white area if we paddle in?

Yes, we can paddle right to the orange dot and pull out.
If we are paddling in, ya may want to check out one of the red dots also..a little flatter ground and more fire material laying around. But where ever y'all wanna set up is good for me.
I have 2 kayaks and a pack raft I'll bring aswell...figure I'll use the second yak to haul gear if no one needs it..I'll have the pack raft just in case. I can meet y'all whenever ya want...I just live about 15-20 minutes from the lake.

Thanks for pointing that out. I forgot all about youth gun season ..my kiddos have all grown.

The red dots in theory should be less likely to have hunters...it's a long walk to the point, even for folks coming in from the rear.

If current weather prediction holds, we should be in for a fairly nice weekend!
