    UPDATED March 1-3

Let’s do May 18-19 at John Bryan State Park at the group camp.

I’d like to get an idea of who thinks they will attend the campout. Let us know if you are in.

    @jswi2374, @Blujakt, and I are in.

The site must be reserved and there is a small fee. I’ll pay the fee, and others can chip in if they feel so inclined. If we get a few more “ins”, I’ll reserve the site. We need to act fast so that some else doesn’t reserve the site.

How about we plan a spring campout well in advance? How does May 4-5 sound?

@jswi2374, @Blujakt, and I recently camped at John Bryan State Park in SW Ohio. The group campground looked ideal for tent campers and hammock campers. There is even a small shelter. I recommend it for the campout.

    What do you think?

I'm gonna bring a bigger tent! And lots of knives. And maybe even a (gasp) gun. I'm feeling very left out at events these days being unarmed.

Instead of just trying not to freeze and die, maybe this time we could have some activities? Like everyone who attends agrees to teach / demonstrate something bushcrafty? We all vote and the best teacher gets a prize. Or contests?

Anyway, I just learned I have a wedding to go to that weekend. Not in for the 4-5 but if the date is moved, I would be.

The following weekend is Mother’s Day.

How about 18-19 or even 17-19? I’m open most weekends.

Man I’d love to, but I’ll be in Idaho that week for spring bear.

Take lots of pics so I can read a good trip report!

    Sounds good. I'm in.

How much is the fee? Yikes! $75 a nite?! But, it is closer so less wear and tear on the truck and less travel time. Chipping in not a problem.
Did you already reserve Group Site 2? That one is showing up as reserved already.

Morning bump to snag a few more Ohio people (or some border raiders if anyone wants to come from out of state).

Sorry. We didn’t grab a group camp in time. It is not available. I’m looking forward to getting out with you guys wherever—probably the usual Wayne NF.

@dadman, @jswi2374, @Blackhawk45hunter, and @Blujakt, it would be great to do a springtime paddle down the Hocking River.

Sure. I can handle it in my kayak.

We should plan a tentative paddle trip and if the level is too high, we just camp without paddling.

We didn’t quite gain enough commitment to reserve a group camp at John Bryan State Park for the dates proposed, but we really should consider a campout there. My schedule is flexible, so I’ll defer to others on a good date.

Any interest in an overnighter March 2-3? We can reserve a standard campsite which allows up to six people. I’ll be going to the Old Time Trade Fair early on the 2nd. The Fair is just a few miles from John Bryan.

@WY_Not, I'm free the whole weekend. I likely will head up Friday evening. The campsites are first come, first served during the winter season which lasts through the end of March. There will be many sites available. We can select what looks to be the best when we get there.

If anyone gets there before me, feel free to pick a site. I will pay for the site Friday and Saturday. I will post in this thread the specific site once we select one. Message me here if you have any questions. I'm following the thread. I will be at the fair early Saturday. Hope to see some of you guys at the fair and campsite even if only for a few hours.

And I'll bring plenty of fire wood.

@WY_Not and @jswi2374, the weather forecast isn’t looking so good for next weekend. Are either of you or anyone else going to camp Friday night? If not, I think I’ll just arrive early Saturday.

I'm planning on getting to the park at about 8 am on Saturday. Spend an hour or so setting up camp and then head over to the fairgrounds.
Rain turning into snow... this sounds familiar! I think I might bring the big tent!

We should have been prepared to make a shelter last time. A reflective blanket/tarp (a la @ReallyBigMonkey1) would have been great to conserve and redirect heat.

John Bryan just a typical state campground? Place to park the vehicle, a fire ring, charcoal grill, and a spot to set a camper/tent?

Bring everything and the kitchen sink, parking is within 30 feet of the sites. I'll help unload if I'm around. It's a bushcraft party!
My wife wants me to bring all my "spare" cast iron and get rid of some of it so if you want to bring some stuff to swap, that'd be great. Or just bring food to throw in one of the Dutch ovens. I've been in the mood to cook lately...
@dadman You free this weekend? I'd love to catch up with you.

Stew sounds really good for a cold evening: warm, easy to make, filling. I will bring / make the stew stuff if you will bring / make some sort of bread.
Bannock over the fire is good and impressive, very bushcrafty. Or bread on a stick, that's fun. A bag of rolls from the grocery would be fine too but less impressive. However you want to do it.
I think we can all bring drinks and share, the way we have done in the past. Always fun to try new things.
Really looking forward to getting out this weekend!

If you want to bring the veggies and other ingredients, I can bring the meat. We should have some pronghorn in the freezer as well as some home raised beef. Which would you two prefer?

As for the bread... I should have a reflector out in the garage that the FiL gave me from his days as a scoutmaster, if you want to use it.

I've never used a reflector for bread. Would be interesting to see it in action, or even just sitting in your trunk!
As far as meat goes, thank you for the offer! Cow or antelope, makes no difference to me. It's all good.

So I'm bringing the DO and stew fixings, WY Not is bringing meat, and hlydon is covering bread.
We gonna try to make a shelter? Saturday night looks cold and windy.

I will try to be at camp by 8am to get set up. If anyone wants to leave their vehicle at the site, my "Deluxe Soccer Mom Edition" minivan can get all of us to the fairgrounds. Our stuff at camp would be safer if a vehicle was there.

I’ll likely arrive 9:30. Unless I’m earlier, I’m going to stop at the fair first. @jswi2374, I’ll text you in the morning.
