Hey guys and gals. Just trying to get the ball rolling on a Ohio spring meet up. Feel free to post any comments, suggestions, ideas on places, dates, etc. I've been trying to get out more and more. It helps motivate me to have more people join in so let's do this.

Central Ohio is probably the best location for all, but it has limited options. I’m not familiar with northern Ohio. Wayne NF is my go to spot in southern Ohio.

we did a ohio meet a few years ago in monday creek in w.n.f. it had plenty of parking and a easy hike to the camping area, and is a short drive maybe 10 minutes from nelsonville. door run w.n.f. is another place with plenty of parking and easy access to the woods and also a short drive from nelsonville, either would be a great place for a meet. the atv trails open april 15 so it would be best to camp before than. wildcat hollow is an other area that is a nice place for a meet we have done a few there. there are many other great places to camp in wayne i have camped at so there are plenty of options.

be mindful spring turkey season opens up april 21st and runs though may 20th so if camping on wayne i would do it before turkey season opens up.

chime in guys @cory3087 is right, lets get this ball rolling.

How do people feel about the first weekend in April? The 6th thru the 8th. That would give a bit of time and still get us in before atv season. I hope you can make it out @sons of scotland.

I'm willing to trek down to Wayne. Seems to be one of the more capable places to get multiple people together. I've only been to Monday creek on last winter meet so I'll leave the location up to the experts ha.

Monday creek trailhead will probably be your best bet but another worth checking out is the long ridge trailhead though I doubt it’ll be as good for a meetup as Monday creek is.

I’m no good for April 6-8 myself, I’ll be in Michigan steelhead fishing but I’ll do my best to make it out any other weekend at least for a bit.

:: pokes head in :: Man it's been a while since I've popped my head in around here... I could definitely be down for some woods time provided I can get my sitter on board for the pooches.

Man I'd love to make it to the meet. Hard to say at this time if I can or not due to my work schedule is supposed to change April 1st but they haven't said what it will be. I'll be keeping a eye on the thread.

It’s been awhile since I’ve been on, but I am definitely interested in making it down to the meet. That weekend in April works great for me. I can make it just about anytime.

over the weekend i took a quick drive to utah ridge in wayne n.f. we have had several meets there and i think we should shoot for this, it has a pond also you can fish at. although the parking area is closed off there is enough parking for several cars so if this is going to be a small meet this would make a great place to go. the location is only about 10 minutes from nelsonville, it is on utah ridge rd township rd 295. i can post more detailed directions when we know where we are going.

if the meet looks like it is going to be a bigger turnout, mondaycreek or dorr run will probably be where we camp.

Put me in the probably category. As long as nothing comes up and the weather is at least decent... ie no torrential downpours.

Man, didn’t see this before we scheduled our meetup. A few of us on instagram set up one a week later on Saturday, April 14th in Wayne National Forest. We posted the invite in the Ohio forum on here. I have to work the weekend of the 6th otherwise I’d be there. I wish I could make it both weekends, but unfortunately I have to work every other Saturday at my job. Have a blast! It looks like you all have a good group willing to go!

I’m in for Utah Ridge on 6-8. Monday Creek or another area is fine as well.

I’ll likely arrive around 6:00-6:30. I’m going to leave work early and head straight there. It’s a 2.5 hour drive for me.

What time is everyone planning to arrive?

Early Saturday morning. Couple hour drive if I left Friday after work dark. I'm not going to try and find the place in the dark and then set up camp in the dark.

Sooo... Who all is bringing bacon for midnight bacon? The group over at the Pout House does midnight bacon at nearly every outing because it is bacon and well, why not. :D

LOL that's exactly what I did at zaleski last Friday. Actually pretty fun man. But I hear ya, doesn't always sound enticing. Especially solo.

If I come down it will be late Friday, 10 or 11pm

Solo probably not as much of a problem. Disturbing others if it is late and fumbling in the dark to the amusement of others... nah. ;)

edit to add... And, knowing this bunch there will be as much help as their is ribbing.

We're currently getting about 10 a day from our hens. Stupid things did NOT stop at all this winter. And, we don't use lights in the coop. :34:

i see we've been sidetracked by breakfast (and who wouldn't be??) but in answer to the question, all i can say this far in advance is that i'm aiming to get there saturday morning....and being the only day this teacher gets to sleep in, i'm not certain. probably aim for 8-10 saturday morning and stay close to sunset perhaps.

For those that arrive first, I assume you’ll select a camp area. Just post on here where you are if you aren’t easily located from the parking area.

as of right now it is still utah ridge but if we get more people it will be monday creek or dorr run. now to the campsite at utah ridge, from the parking area just hike to the trail on the left hand side of the pond, once you get middle of the pond just hike up the small hill to the left of the pond and we will be there. probably less 150 yards give or take from the parking area.

    update

I literally put up my hammock/tarp setup for the first time today. I’m a newbie at hammock camping but am looking forward to it in a few weeks.

Yeah I'm debating on tarp alone vs hammock tarp combo. I guess it depends on weather, temperature, bugs, etc. Only time will tell in Ohio ha.

This time of year in Ohio... Tarp and hammock will probably be your best bet. LOL

Sorry I’ll be missing out. That Monday Creek meet was great, and the smaller Wildcat meet last year was fun too (though wet). The Air Force has sent me to Sacramento, so many new places to explore...

    Dublin, oh
I'm looking pretty likely as my Pinhoti trip is probably pushed back until May.

A friend of mine might join us. He is supposed to fish in a bass tournament that weekend (back of the boat). Given the weather we have had, he might pass on the tournament since the bass are likely confused and think it is still winter.

Sooooo..... what are we doing besides making fun of each other and eating bacon and eggs? Trade blanket? Hikes? Hunts? Cook off?

Definitely hikes. I don’t know that there will be much to hunt if you are referring to game and wild edibles. I’ll look around for things to trade. I might trade a Mountain House for some bacon and eggs.

agreed on the the trade blanket! a hike sounds like fun too-though it's always nice to just hang around a camp site, shoot the breeze, and sharpen some skills too. a little of this, a little of that...

I may drag down one or two of my old film cameras and shoot some portraits if any one is interested. I'm working on my portraiture skills a bit this year. And I'll gladly provide you with a digital copy or print if interested.
