He's got a series. Strange, though, he gets a lot of critical comments about things nothing to do with paddling a canoe.

Sitting in a canoe like that would kill me. Much prefer a saddle.

Good basic stuff. Yeah, kneeling on a saddle is way easier; gives better reach and flexibility for better control. But when you're given simple bare hulls to work with, you do what you must. ;)

There is sort of a creepy, cult like vibe coming from his group of students in the video. No smiles, dull expressions and the shirtlessness in mosquito country. The instruction was fine, I think the aesthetics of the video is what throws folks....could just be me though, lol

Okay, I'll go with that. I'd have to leave the room if Banana Hammock Guy started to levitate or something...

Nice piece of film, enjoyed it a lot! And I know that after I built my first solo canoe the wife and I both enjoyed paddling solo better than tandem because you don't have to coordinate with another person and you are free to follow your own path to what ever interests you, while still being on the water together.

Nitpicky FreeMe would have liked it better if he had shown and demonstrated a real ottertail paddle, instead of pretending the blockish piece of wood in his hands was the same. "You can fool some people..."

Yeah, gooney stroke. A quick and dirty method to get a complete noob up and running. I don't think I can fault him for that. I just hope he clues them in that it's just a starting point .

It's a dual purpose paddle - doubles as a pizza shovel.

This guy is paddling what's commonly called a pack boat (sometimes called a "pak" boat). If you check out Pete Hornbeck's canoes you'll be looking at pretty much the same craft. Most folks around my neck of the woods paddle these with a double bladed kayak paddle but lots of people still enjoy using a straight shafted canoe paddle.

Here's the link to Pete's website if you'd like to learn more: www.hornbeckboats.com/

That's all for now. Take care and until next time...be well.

@Sagebrusher , thanks for the linkee! I've been paddling a kayak the past few years but am getting a canoe again soon. This was a good refresher (well, other than actually getting in the water and practicing).
