We had 30-40 mph winds and 3" of rain. No damage to the tarp. But, I did hang it up to dry.

Any requests for the next set up??

Sorry for the delay. This set up works great with a hammock. No holes or tears yet. Tabs are all holding strong.

Went out to do some work in the woods this evening and it looks like the tarp is getting a little sag. Not that surprised lots of sun and wind on it lately.

    Oh no! not "sag"?!

Looking good Terry... I don't see any difference between it and the previous photo from 2 weeks ago. And thanks for doing this.

Great thread. The plow point is one of my favorite setups. It’s what I used in the Nebraska wind tunnel at 88T meet in 2014 after the weather disabled my tent.

What are you using for a ridge line? Is that a modified lean to set up ? Has it faded at all? Stretched?

I am using a 950 lbs Technora Ridge line that we sell. It is winged lean-to, I have a video coming up to demo it. Tarp is a little stretched, but is holding up very well.

I love the Woodland Pattern and just bought 2. Seam sealed today. Now, here's a question for the community:

If I wanted to do a setup where it was basically elevated by the center tie-out and the 4 corners tied down should I use a "button" in the center or am I over thinking it. In other words I feel stressed stressing the center tab so much by directly tying it overhead. Somebody talk me down.

I have put lots of tension on my tarps from BC Outfitters and never had any issues. Come down off the cliff and use the tab!!!

Funny story, I have been setting up different tarps and prototype shelters for a month or so. I totally forgot that I had taken this tarp down and wadded it up next to a tree. Well I happen to stumble on it underneath the snow today. So, I knocked the ice and snow off of it and set it up.

I just thought of something I wish I thought of earlier. It would have been nice to tape or cover a small area with a patch or something to see how much the color faded in a year. I know the tart quality is fantastic, I got one!

We had rain yesterday, and now it is 16 degrees, 45mph wind gusts, and snowing. I will be surprised if there is no damage to the tarp.

If that thing fell apart today, I'd still call it a victory.

Tarps are not meant for this kind of long term exposure. UV Rays, the heavy weight of snow and ice. Changing wind directions, can all conspire to shred a tarp. The fact that this thing has lasted this long is a testament to its durability.

On a cold day with light snow and a stiff northwest wind blowing. A plow point set-up sheds wind like nobody's business. The next day a storm front moves through. Suddenly the wind shifts. Now it's out of the southeast. And your plow point is backwards and has become a big air scoop. (Ask me how I know)

If you're there. It's no big deal. Adjust and move on. If you're not. The tarp takes a severe pounding. Basically a sailboat with the sails up, but still tied to the dock.

I am extremely impressed with this experiment so far.

Have enjoyed this thread. Great idea.

Although, I have to plug the heavy duty version of the standard tarp. I tied a 12x16 on my lean-to in May 2016 and is exposed for a half day to direct sunlight from the E/SE. It has not been maintained and snow loads have been allowed to accumulate. I did note some stretching of the stitching on one seam following a 13" snowfall of the wet heavy stuff that first October. Otherwise it has endured two complete summers and almost two complete (Minnesota) winters so far. Not all plastic tarps meet their demise in weeks. God help you if you had to pack this thing, though.

@IA Woodsman if you are ever looking to get rid of any of these old tarps for a discount after your research let me know, I got the 10x10 woodland camo for Christmas and want a few more but have to wait to build the funds back up. If you ever have some old ones you need to make room ;)

Very cool. We've thinned out since retirement. Only one dog left; just the wife, Li'l Abner and me. Kids are gone, too. It's going to be weird when that day comes. There was a time... (with our breeder).
