Howdy folks, I've mentioned before that I've had something in the works with Cabela's at their Hamburg PA store. I've just been given the thumbs up to offer the classes. We'll be doing a series of three family-friendly classes running throughout the day. There's something for all ages here. Consider making a day of it. Come out, bring the kids, check out a class or two, check out the wonderful taxidermy displays, check out the gun library, get a tasty lunch (I personally recommend the BLT with extra bacon. It literally has 12 strips of bacon. It's amazing!), and maybe do some shopping. If you've never been to Cabela's, it truly is a destination location. Here's the classes and schedules for the day. Hug a Tree and Survive - 10 am to 11 am - $5 per person - This is a program developed by the National Association for Search and Rescue to teach young Children how to behave in the event that they become lost in the outdoors. The children are taught simple methods of staying warm and dry, as well as methods for aiding in their rescue by search and rescue personnel. This is a great class for kids ages 6 and up and is an especially good training for young hunters as well as Cub Scouts and Brownie Girl Scouts. Basic Knots for Outdoor Use - 12 pm to 1 pm - $5 per person - This is a program that would be suitable for children ages 10 and up, as well as adults. The students will learn basic knot terminology, the difference between knots, bends, and hitches, as well as about a dozen of the more basic, yet most useful knots for use in camping, hunting, boating, etc. Overnight Survival - 2 pm to 4 pm - $10 per person - This is an adult course that has been adapted from the Hug a Tree and Survive program. This program goes into more detail for simple methods of staying dry and warm in the event that someone has to spend an unintended night in the outdoors. This program is suitable for ages 14 to adult. Registration is requested to ensure adequate materials are available. All classes will be held in the upstairs conference room. To register, email SandcutOutdoorsLLC@gmail.com We'll be doing another day just like this on March 18 as well. I hope to see some of you there.
