Can someone explain all of this to me? I'm not familiar with uppers and lowers? Why not complete?

    And should I get some?

Assuming you're not just horsing around...

A nice thing about ARs is that you can 'mix and match' different uppers on your lower, you just have to pop a couple of pins and the 'upper' (barrel, upper receiver, bolt carrier) can be removed. The lower has to go through your FFL (its the part with a serial number) and houses the trigger group and stock assembly. Sometimes people just want a new upper (that can be delivered straight to your house) that can go on their existing lower.

Its like Legos, but wildly expensive.

Palmetto regularly sells these individual components and you just slap them together if you want both. They make a reasonable AR that is ample for most people's needs. $350 is a disturbingly low price for one.

They are complete as far as every part already put together. If youre asking why not a complete rifle? Because they sell different uppers and lowers so you can get what you want.

They make a great rifle for fun or defense.

If you have the money get several! They won't be getting any lower priced, and in the next few months to years will likely go way up. About six or so years ago a $800 to $1000 rifle was selling for over $2000 to $2800 and you couldn't find them.

Palmetto is a dangerous email subscription.
I swore off needing more ARs to the collection. I said I'd never need an AR pistol or 308AR. Then the Daily Deals came along and changed things.

There is also a tax on complete rifles that you don't get hit with when you buy a seperate upper and lower.

Well you still have to pay an FFL fee for the lower which you would have to pay on any gun anyway, but its probably between $25-50 most places. If you're a regular and its not a box store they may not charge you anything.

I guess I should clarify. You don't get dinged for FAET if you assemble your own lower.

FAET is an 11% tax separate from FFL fees.

Upper is sold out. Lower is still available.... if you know a local FFL that has reasonable prices that's the part that is legally a firearm. The rest is just parts.

    Seriously tempted...

Definitely, PSA has some insane deals. I remember when they used to sell 62 grain 223 Gold Dots for $9.99 a box. I should have bought 1,000 more before the well dried up :34:

With PSA you have to remember uppers and lowers are assembled after your order is placed. They usually ship out around 15 business days after you make the order. Anything sooner than that is a bonus. They are a massive volume seller. Don't expect next day shipping.

Depends how you look at it

Yes they are not 1800s technology but then many of use use modern equipment.

The AR15 is a firearm used by the military because it can hold up, is lightweight, can be repaired fairly easily and has parts interchangeability.

So that means you can easily carry it in the field, adapt it to your needs and count on it in a pinch.

Sounds bushcrafty to me. It may not be walnut and polished blue but then neither are the newer Mora knives and people think they are bushcrafty.

    Just an opinion

For some of us it’s very “bushcrafty” I’m never in the woods without a firearm, sometimes I carry flintlock rifle and an 1858 Remington sidearm, sometimes a Hawken with a Glock, but I never carry my flintlock pistol when I carry my ar15, just doesn’t seem right for some reason.

This type of deal is for someone who hasn't felt the need to own an AR but it's price is so low they might as well!

For everyone else it's a test of wallet control!

I believe we are in the golden age of firearms and ammo buying, if your considering the AR platform now is the time to buy, stock up on mags and ammo too, educate yourself, train, involve the whole family, as we get closer to 2020 I’m almost certain things will deteriorate, and beyond who knows, buy now and beat the rush I say.

One of my favorite things about going to the woods when I was younger was going through a lot of .22 ammo just plinking at whatever. A few years ago with "the shortage" I thought that was never going to be possible again. Now you can get centerfire ammo for about what rimfire cost years ago and both types of ammo are very available. So while the firearm prices are great, the ammo prices and availability are most impressive to me right now.

Not sure if you got a commission on it but yes I did :D Always kind of wanted one but shooting my buddy’s was enough to satisfy that urge and kept my money in the pocket. Then you went and posted this right at my birthday and I decided to gift one to myself.....came out to about $400 including tax and FFL fee. Bought a magazine for $10 and now waiting on a cheapie ncstar carry handle/rear sight for $30, some ammo and another mag. All in at this point without ammo is $450. Can’t wait to get out and sight it in and see how it shoots. Have more to learn about it in the mean time.

Hatchet added to photo to make it “bushcraft” ;)

2 weeks ago, while watching the Outdoor Channel, my wife turned to me and asked, "When are you going to get me an AR?" Too big a hint to miss, so I started looking. I decided to get her an AR pistol because she is a petite little thing, and we don't have one. Went to the LGS on Friday evening to look. They had ATI MilSport rifles for $405.00, and an AR pistol for $490.00, and Aero Precision pistol lowers for $75.00. Bought the lower and ordered the 10.5" pistol kit with the 12" hand guard and blast can from PSA. The kit arrived Friday. We spent the evening with me explaining everything and coaching her on building the lower. An hour later she was a very proud lady!
I can highly recomend PSA kits and Aero lowers. It shoots like a dream. I put some spare flip-up sights and the old red dot I used to have on my AR rifle on it.
