Just thought I'd share a little mile stone in my tenkara "career". Last Saturday I participated in the first annual "Panfish Pandemonium" - a tournament of tiny proportions, held at prospect park in Brooklyn, NY. The goal was to catch the most fish between 2 and 6pm with awards going to the top three for fly fishing and spin caster (grand prize for first place fly fishing) with additional prizes for smallest fish and a species slam (black crappie, pumpkinseed, bluegill and largemouth bass). No fish over ten inches could be counted towards your final number. The sign in booth. One of my first fish of the day. The lake at prospect park is strictly catch and release so for each fish you needed a photo with the patch handed out at check in. I started out a little slow but after moving around I found a good spot. My smallest fish of the day caught on a size 18 fly I tied. The smallest fish of the day was 2.5 inches. A handful of the participants that stuck around for count in. The winner of the fly fishing division. Me! I won with 50 fish, I think 2nd place came in with about 14. I just started tying my own flys so the $250 gift card will be put to good use at the local fly fishing shop. Thanks for tagging along.
