Not yet. Long story short, I rent a 3 bedroom manufactured home from a very large company. They bought this land years ago and ran a large gravel pit out of it. Now the pit is not working. Part of my responsibility is to keep an eye on the land here (680 acres and it's just us). I can basically do whatever I feel within reason. I'm very fortunate to live here. My family owns a good amount of land that I'll inherit when the time comes. But until then this is what I'll have : )

How could it get better than that! All of that acreage to play on and not have to pay taxes on it. :)

Can't wait to see what you come up with. :)

Got it officially started today. Started a good wall and did some exploring. Still need to fill wall in but for the most part it's pretty structurally sound. Next time I'm hoping to finish it, then start the shelter : )

Not much done today, little too cold for the little guy. Did get a little Fatwood spire to the house to be cleaned up with the pressure washer. Got two of them, think they'll make nice camp decorations!

    Progress today!!
Bushy wall is pretty much done, started another stacked log wall that will be my woodshed. Got a few other things done too. One thing was a firewall, lumberjack style. Looks really out of place now but should fit in well after the slab shelter is built! Also started a bit of a natural archway that I thought would be cool. Gonna take a lot of time to get it how I want it, is pretty much going to be a tunnel I hope. My son is gonna love it : ) Also got a bunch of small slabs batoned for a chair or table : )

    Enjoy!!

I was disappointed to discover that Rowland’s story was fiction. Based on experience, but not what happened. Now we have a chance to get in on the ground floor of a story that is REAL!

Love that fire reflector. Now you got the gears spinning, we had a digger pine fall down that was 4’ across. Digger doesn’t burn worth a bent nickel in a rainstorm, I bet a little slice of the trunk would make a mighty nice reflector...

    Does the lake have fish?

If so are they safe to eat or water safe to drink after mining the pit?

Tons of fish! And the pit is plenty far enough away from the lake so no issues there. Offut lake is the name of it, they have a few fishing derbies there every year I believe as well.

Having a permanent site on your own property is a wonderful blessing. I haven’t posted as much about Camp Lumuwu as I expected to, but I spend a fair amount of time there. This past weekend, I went out, got a nice fire going, then was driven under my poncho tarp by a rainstorm, with my dog. A good time was had by all, down in my camp, even though the house was right there, totally available.

Think I just got into a rhythm and went to far on the draw stroke and when I went forward there was just the tip of the blade in the wood. Wood was pinched just enough and it broke with ease. Luckily it felt no pain : ( lol

Good eye it is! Thinned the handle a bit, thinned the edge a bit as well. Polished the edge and smoothed out some of the bumpiness that the steel comes with. Burnt and stained the handle, and recently did my first jute epoxy wrap!
I love this thing. It's my go to bushcraft axe always.
